Margaret Mary Meaney (nee Nurse)

May 20, 1937 to September 29, 2024

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Meaney (nee Nurse) on September 29th , 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family.  Leaving to mourn with broken hearts and a lifetime of memories are her husband and love of her life of 63 years Ray, children: Gerard (Teresa), Rick (Noeleen), Rob (Pam), Raylene (Rob), Maryanne (Artie) and Laura (Matt); grandchildren: Julianne, Nick, Rowan, Dana, Brendan, Alex, Meagan, Andrew, Abbigale, Rebecca and great grandchildren: Ryder and Raelle, and a long list of family and friends including Flo and Justin Conway, Carm Nurse and Lucy Meaney, we will all miss her dearly.

Margaret was predeceased by both of her parents, her sister Irene and her brother Michael.

Margaret’s 63 year marriage to Ray was filled with dancing, laughter and trips to cabin, their favorite place.  She was a devoted and fiercely proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to those who were lucky enough to call her Mom, Nan, Nanny, or Gigi. She cherished her time with family and friends and loved family get-togethers at home or at the cabin singing her favorite songs to the playing of guitars, ugly sticks and a mandolin.  During the past week, we were fortunate enough to spend evenings playing and singing along with her.   She told “all” of her girls, no matter what you have faced or how you feel “do your hair, put on your sunglasses and lipstick” … we did and we always will.

Special thanks to Debbie Hayes who took amazing care of her over the last several months, Dr. Kristian Green and receptionist Ashley, Dr. Heidi Brake, and the Paramedicine Community Service and Paramedic team.

Her favorite song, The Voyage, perfectly summed up the journey of her life with Ray and her family:

…When we started the voyage, there was just me and you, now gathered ’round us we have our own crew…”

At her request, Cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, from 10 – 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 2nd.

Funeral mass will take place on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. from the Basilica. Interment to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Our deepest condolences to all Aunt Margie’s children and especially Uncle Ray. We are so saddened to hear of her passing and since getting the news I have been thinking of her often. She was such a beautiful lady inside and outside. She always had a large smile that lit up every room and made everyone feel better just to be in her presence. Time will heal, memories are forever. We are out of town but at 11am NST we will pause and spent a little time mourning and remembering Margie Meaney. RIP and say Hi to Mom. You are both missed by many.

Our deepest sympathy to you, Ray, and to your whole family on the passing of Margaret. I worked with her for the whole of her career in the Cytology Lab. She was truly a lovely lady. I remember especially her infectious laugh and the way she spoke of the people she loved.
I am sure she will be greatly missed.

Deepest condolences Ray and Family on Margaret’s passing. May she rest in peace. Franz and Beatrice Schinagl

Ruth and I were sad to hear of Aunt Margie’s passing. I have only spoken to her (and Uncle Ray) a few times over the last 40+ years – usually when visiting NL for family weddings and other occasions. It was always obvious how much they loved being with immediate and extended family – lots of stories/reminiscing, singing and dancing. Those memories last forever. Our condolences to the entire family, and especially Uncle Ray.

Ray, Gerard, Rick, Rob, Raylene, Maryanne, and Laura, so sorry to hear of Margaret’s passing. I worked with Margaret at the Cytology Lab many years ago, we studied and wrote our Cytolgy RT exams together. She was my closest friend and to say she was a good person would be an understatement. She was in my eyes, perfection, in every way and even though she was 20 years my senior, it didn’t seem to matter. There was no doubt she loved her family more than anything on earth and eagerly shared all her experiences, and I felt I knew everyone of you on a personal basis. I later moved to a new position at the Grace hospital and as time moved on so did we in our separate lives. I would run into her every now and then , shopping most times and she still looked wonderful, always smiling and we were always so happy to see each other. She was truly a special person and will always hold a warm place in my heart. My condolences to all.

Gerard my condolences to you and your family on the passing of your Mom. Take Care Graham

Gerard and family,
Very sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. My thoughts and sympathy is with you and your family during this sad time. Take care.

Our deepest sympathies, condolences to Mr. Ray Meaney and his family. I recall our late mom, Mary Wadden, speaking always very warmly of Mrs. Meaney and Mr. Meaney. She enjoyed her visits with them very much. Losing someone you love is only the hardest thing in the world. May Mr. Meaney and all his loved ones find solace and comfort in this difficult time. We wish you peace and well-being. Warmest regards, Paul, Lynda Wadden and family

Ray, Raylene, Maryanne, Laura, Gerard. Rick, Rob, our hearts are broken at the loss of our beautiful Margaret. She was in a class all her own – dignified, gracious, kind and empathetic – she personified the word “lady”. Margaret welcomed everyone with her melodious laugh and warmth. Ray and she had a marriage that was the envy of many. She loved and was so proud of her children, their spouses, grand and great grand children.. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We are so sorry. Love to you all. Justin and Flo

Ray, It’s so sad to hear of Margaret’s passing. She truly was a wonderful person and a favorite cousin. I’m so glad I was able to visit with you both, and meet some of the family, on my trip home a couple of years ago. I’ll always remember her cheerful smile and boisterous laugh. I think it was a family trait. She will be missed by us all. My condolences to you and your family.❤️🦋
