Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sweet mother, Margaret Mary Murphy (nee Murray) at the Health Sciences Center on June 11, 2022 at the age of 87.

Predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Thomas Murphy; sons Michael Murphy and Donald Murphy; son-in-law Robert Stamp; her mother and father Edward and Violet Murray; brother Mike Murray, sisters Elizabeth Murray, Madonna Dyer (Bud), Madeline White (Fred), Eileen Smith and brother-in-law Leonard Wheeler and extended family members from the Murphy family as well.

Leaving to mourn with great sadness are her daughters Margaret (Margie) Murphy, Suzanne Stamp, Shirley Hayes (Richard); son Thomas Murphy (Helen Marie) and daughter-in-law Linda Murphy;  Grandchildren Jason Murphy (April), Michael Murphy Jr (Allison), Deborah Cranford (Stephen), Victoria Hayes (Shane); Richard Hayes Jr.; Ashley Stamp, Roberta Evans (Justin) , Paul Murphy (Andrea), Stephanie Murphy, Sara Murphy (Brendan) and a large number of great grand-children including the second love of her life, her very special great grandson, Jude Thomas who brought so much love, laughter and joy to her life; and her furry little companion Doodles; her sisters Kathleen Yetman (James) and Patricia Wheeler; brothers Edward Murray (Dolly) and Patrick Murray and brother-in-law Steve Smith; her sisters-in-law, Shirley Murphy and Bet Murphy and many other wonderful friends.

Finally, we would also like to thank the following:  Murray Walters of Eastern Health, Angel’s Touch Home Care, Kim Hedderson, John Hearn, Her physicians Dr. Deanne Leonard, Dr. John and Paul Gordon, Dr. Julia Curtis, Heather Mullins and the fabulous staff and patients (especially Alice) at The Waterford Hospital GPA Unit, Dr. Marsha Eustace and all of the staff of 4 South B, at the HSC, especially Ashley and Ken for their compassion, care and kindness during her final hours.

At the request of the family, there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at St. Teresa’s Parish, Mundy Pond Road in St. John’s on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Topsail Road.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or St. Teresa’s – Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

It is so hard to lose a family member, but no pain greater than the loss of our mother. From our earliest memories they have been our source of nourishment, guidance, consolation, support and love.
Margie was a lovely woman!, always a smile and kind word to share.
