It is with deep sadness that we share that Marguerite Drover (nee Sutton) passed peacefully away on July 19, surrounded by her family at home in St. John’s. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Phoebe Sutton, as well as her brother, Woodrow Sutton.
Left with a lifetime of love and memories are her husband of 57 years, Nigel Drover, and their children Calvin Drover (Sarah), Bruce Drover (Kirsten), and Nancy Andrews (Glenn) as well as grandchildren Thomas, James, Lila, Freyja, and Cullen of whom she was incredibly proud, her siblings Henry Sutton (Rose) and Vida Keats (Harvey), and a close-knit circle of lifelong friends.
Throughout her 81 years, Marguerite was incredibly committed to her family, and determined in her education and career. Growing up in Burgoyne’s Cove, she was the first young woman in the community to become a licensed driver, buy a car, and earn a university education. Together, Marguerite and Nigel taught their children the importance of being independent and bold in the pursuit of their goals.
Marguerite Drover was an avid quilter, took great pride in her garden, and loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. She touched the lives of many people and while her passing will surely be mourned, it is also with a great deal of gratitude that we reflect on her life and the blessing of being a part of it.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 23 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Carnell’s Funeral Home on Freshwater Road in St. John’s. A service to celebrate Marguerite’s life will take place on Wednesday, July 24 at 2pm at St. Mark’s Anglican Church on Logy Bay Road in St. John’s with burial following the service at Forest Road Anglican Cemetery. For any family or friends that are unable to attend the service, it will be livestreamed at St. Marks Church The link is http://www.facebook.com/stmarksnl
Those wishing to make donations in memory of Marguerite may do so to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre Foundation.

She was always there for all the family, showing her love and support in so many ways like baking our wedding cake and making a one of a kind wedding quilt. We spoke many times and I always enjoyed the conversations we had. Marguerite was a kind gentle soul and we will miss her in the Guild.

Dear Uncle Nigel, Calvin, Bruce, Nancy and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Marg’s passing. I have so many wonderful childhood memories of our family visits during the summers. After I moved out west, Aunt Marg’s was always the first stop when I came home to Newfoundland. Aunt Marg has a special place in my heart. She was always encouraging no matter what I was pursuing. I loved her for her directness and her sense of humour. I hope you can all find peace in her memory.

Nigel and family:
We are so saddened to hear of Marguerite’s passing. On behalf of the Bishop Jones Hostel “girls” of which she was one in 1959-60 and Summer School 1960, we wish to extend our deepest condolences. During the past 10 years or so we got to know Marguerite as she was part of our BJMHG Committee. We enjoyed her pleasant demeanor, her kindness, her dedication and her dry wit at our meetings and pot lucks. After COVID we have missed our get togethers and will remember with fondness her seat at the dinner table. May God Bless and Comfort you in the days ahead as you deal with your loss.
Nigel, Bruce, Nancy, Calvin and families,
Sending love and condolences at this time and as you forge this new path forward. Marguerite was such a good friend to my Mom and helped teach me about life long true friendship. Her support and kind words over the last few years especially have meant so much.
