Obituary
Passed peacefully away after a brief illness, Marie Cooke (nee Furey) of St. John’s, formerly of St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s Bay. Predeceased by parents Margaret and George Furey, brothers Tony and Billy, and parents-in-law Angus and Margaret Cooke. Leaving to mourn husband of 44 years Brendan, children Sandra Cooke-Hubley (Scott), David (Tiffany), Matthew (Libby), Daniel (Sarah), Stephen (Megan), and Brendan Jr.; four precious grandchildren Michael, Anna, Lauren and Charlotte, whom Marie adored and helped care for after retirement. Marie will also be missed by her siblings Patsy Yetman (Gordon), Marion Yetman (Ken); Helen Colbert (Fred), George (Janet), Peggy Allen (Bill), Pat (Mary), Elsie Thistle (Bill), Michael (Trina), and sister-in-law Cindy.
Marie was devoted to her faith in God and instilled Christian values into each of her six children. She trained and worked as a teacher, licensed practical nurse, and early childhood educator, but her most rewarding times were those many years as a devoted full-time Mom to her family.
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Her children rise up and call her blessed.” Proverbs 31:26,28
Special thanks to the health care team at the Cancer Centre and the palliative care team at the Miller Centre.
Family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday, June 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 2 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery on Kenmount Road.

Bren and children, It was only today that we learned of Marie’s passing. Unfortunately, as a result, we did not attend either her wake or funeral. It’s a very sad time for you, but you do have the joy of a lifetime of happy memories, and the love of a close-knit family. Sincere condolences.
