Obituary

Marie Madeline Ryan

October 15, 1944 – September 15, 2026

Passed peacefully away at Palliative Care, in the presence of her daughter and grand daughter, after a very brief illness.

Predeceased by her parents Frank and Mollie Ryan; her brother John Ryan of Torbay, as well many extended family members.

Leaving to mourn daughter Jacquie (Peter); grandchildren Ashley and Daniel (Caroline); great grandchildren Louis, Marco, Alexander, Amelia and nephew Johnny Ryan.

Marie was blessed with amazing friends, Helen Manning and Joan Joy were friends of hers for 65 years, along with her neighbour and co worker Joan Summers, who have known each other for many years. Even when not in each other’s company, they could always just pick up from where they left off, a true sign of friendship.

Marie spent her working life employed by the Provincial, then Federal Government from which she retired. She worked in several departments in St. John’s and Moncton.

Marie was an avid animal lover, who befriended and adopted many pets over the years. They certainly won the lottery, when adopted by her. She passed on her love of animals to her daughter, who would bring home several “found” pets, some of whom who were not meant to be pets, but nonetheless, Marie always allowed them to be brought home in the interim, till they found appropriate homes for them.

We would like to thank all, the Drs who treated Marie and delved deeper to find the issues and guided us along her short illness. To the amazing nurses at the Health Science, you are truly gifted, with a workload that was abundant, you always made sure she was taken care of, even in the moments when she was not happy to be there. To the nurses at Palliative Care, you truly are the best, with amazing compassion and empathy, you are angels in uniform, Marie’s last week was spent being taken care of, as if she was your own. We really could not have asked for anything else. Many thanks to the volunteers at Palliative Care who constantly checked in on us and made sure we had what we needed.

Many thanks to our cousins, Mary and Francis who are always there in times of need. Special thanks to Sherry, moms permanent Homecare Worker from Comfort Home Care for the past three years. You treated her as if she was your own family member, you went above and beyond. Your kindness and professionalism will never be forgotten. You are very special.

At Marie’s request there will be no wake or church service, she has requested an inurnment with family present, along with a prayer service.

No flowers by request, donations can be made to the SPCA in her memory.

When you arrive in heaven, the first thing god says, they have been waiting for you, then you know you have arrived at your final resting place.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Marie. I met Marie as one of her home care workers many years ago. A strong woman who faced her health challenges head on and determined to show her fierce independence no matter what the situation held for her, with humour and heartache combined. I am now Marie’s age when I did home care for her many years ago….. I just hope that I can have the same positive attitude as Marie as I go forward in my life. RIP Marie flowers 💐✨ ✌️
