Obituary
Passed peacefully away on Sunday evening, March 22nd, 2026 after a lengthy battle with cancer and dementia. Professional Librarian retired from QEII Library at MUN.
Predeceased by her father, Raymond Ivimey; mother, Ruby Ivimey (Hollett); father-in-law, George Matthews; mother-in-law Amy Matthews (Taylor); sister, G. June Mercer (Ivimey); and brothers-in-law, Gerald G.G. Matthews and James A. Matthews.
Left to mourn is her husband, Williams F. Matthews; brother-in-law, Graham Mercer; nephew, Roger Mercer (Robyn); sisters-in-law, Anne Street, Roberta Dawson (Peter), Elizabeth V. Power (Edward), and Bonnie L. Clark (Peter); brothers-in-law, A. Neil Matthews (Florence) and R. Tobias Matthews (Elizabeth); sisters-in-law, E. Ruth Morris (Norman) and Jean Vallis (Randy); and friend, Judy Benson.
Special thanks to Drs. Rorke, Al-Badoosh, and Colin Penney. Also to the staff of St. Clare’s Emergency & Saint Luke’s Homes.
Cremation has taken place and the funeral service will be held at St. Lawrence Anglican Church, Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, on Friday, March 27th at 11am.

My sincere condolences on Marion’s passing. I was fortunate to have worked with Marion at the Queen Elizabeth II Library. I will always remember and appreciate her guidance, her kindness and her ever present smile.
My thoughts are with you, Bill, at this difficult time. You cared for Marion over these recent years with respect and kindness. With her passing, I am hoping you can look back at all your wonderful memories of your life with Marion and feel some solace. Never easy… my heart goes out to you.
So sad to hear of Marion’s passing. I remember when I was the new kid in the Cataloguing department and she was very helpful and kind to me. I also remember her wicked sense of humour! She was so much fun to work with. She was very much missed when she retired. My condolences to Bill and all who mourn her.

I have happy memories of working with her at the QEII Library. I always enjoyed her impish sense of humour. She was a fine person and I have missed her during these last years.

My sincere condolences. Marion was a schoolmate from Holloway thru to graduation from PWC in 1963.

There are often times in life when we face a loss that is indescribable. Marion was a friend for more than 70 years, a perfect friend, quiet, non-judgemental, always willing to offer suggestions and support.
