October 1, 1933 to December 3, 2025

Obituary

Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family on December 3rd, 2025 in St. John’s, NL, Martin Francis Clooney at the age of 92 years.

Martin is predeceased by his beloved wife – Maureen (July 2nd, 2025).

Left to mourn are his children – Judith (Steven), William and Gregory (Patricia); sister Kay Wadden (Patrick, deceased), brother-in-law – Harry Megann (Rosemarie, deceased); sister-in-law – Eleanor (Dr. John, deceased) and cherished friend – Betty Coughlan (Leonard, deceased).

Dad achieved much in life – in his career, in sports and athletics and in the outdoors that he loved so deeply. He and mom made long, loyal friendships along the way. Of all his accomplishments, the greatest was his unwavering devotion to our Mom and his love for us children as our Dad. We will miss them both every day and will love them forever.

To all the Clooney family. Martin and I were friends for many years. We were both Bankers and golfers. Martin was a better golfer than me, but knowing his fair sportsmanship he never mentioned it. In fact he was always helping me.. The last time I spoke with him was when he was in the process of moving back to his home. He was in good spirits but a little emotional when we talked about Maureen’s passing.. He certainly will be missed by family and friends. And certainly my me.
God bless you all 🙏. George and Barbara Bradbury

Judi and Steve

William –
My deepest condolences to you and your family at this time. May you cherish all the fond memories you shared with your dad over the years to help get you through this time. Thinking of you.

To all of the Clooney family, my condolences on the passing of Martin. Besides your mother’s funeral, it had been a number of years since I chatted with Martin.

Karen and Shannon Keough

My sincere condolences on the loss of your father Bill, Judy & Greg. I hadn’t seen your Dad for many years but, I have fond memories of him and your Mom when you lived in Halifax. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.

I am saddened at the news of Martin’s passing. Martin earned the respect of his staff from the day he arrived in his St. John’s hometown BDC office. He was a great mentor and inspiration to me. I enjoyed working with and for him for the years I spent under his direction. My condolences to his family and friends whom, I’m sure, will miss him greatly.

To all the Clooney family, please accept my condolences. Martin hired me at the Federal Business Development Bank back in 1986. He was a kind and clever gentleman with a great sense of humour. Martin enjoyed a good game of golf and was very competitive. He taught me a lot and I appreciated him greatly. So sad to read his obituary. May he RIP.

Kay and Martin’s family:
Please accept my condolence on the death of Martin.
Sincerely,
Joan (Wadden) Hann

Judy,
