In Loving Memory of Mary Jane (Strickland) Westcott
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and heartbreaking passing of our beloved mother, Mary Jane (Strickland) Westcott, who was tragically taken from us, along with her brother Herbert Strickland, in a motor vehicle accident on Friday, August 14, 2026.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Patrick Joseph Westcott, who passed away on June 14, 2002. Though many years have passed since his death, their love and the memories they created together remained an enduring part of her life.
She will be deeply missed by her family, who will forever cherish the love, memories, and moments they shared with her. Her presence brought comfort and warmth to those around her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind her daughter, Jane, son-in-law Barry, and granddaughter Kate (Stevens); her son, Patrick, daughter-in-law Melissa, and grandchildren MacKenzie, Samual, and Abigail. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers, Leslie (Joyce White) and Clarence, her sister, Elizabeth (Ross) Newell, numerous brothers/sisters-in-law and their families, along with many other relatives, friends, and loved ones whose lives she touched.
Our mother found great joy in the simple and beautiful things in life. She loved gardening and flowers, and she took great pride and pleasure in nurturing her garden. Flowers brought her happiness, and they were a reflection of the love and care she gave to so many around her. Most of all, she treasured spending time with her family. Those precious moments together will become memories that we will carry with us always.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the volunteer firefighters, the RCMP and RNC officers, and other first responders. We send our prayers for their well-being and that the comfort and compassion they have brought to our family will help ease their minds in the days ahead.
Our mother’s life was far too precious to be measured by the circumstances of her passing. She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply, memories that will never fade, and a legacy of love that will continue through her children, grandchildren, siblings, and all those who knew her.
Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, August 22nd.
She loved the flowers, and we will always think of her when they bloom – flowers are gratefully accepted.
Forever loved.

To my cousins Janie and Pat and their spouses and children and all of the extended family, my brother Scott and I want to extend the sincerest and deepest of condolences on the loss of Auntie Jane and her brother. Auntie Jane was an amazing woman and everytime I would see her in the mall she would ask how the family was doing and give me one of those hugs that can only be described as an Auntie Jane hug. In later months, after mom passed, when we would see each other in the mall, she would give me a hug, tell me to stop holding my emotions back because she could see it in my face. Then she would tell me she loved me and and to tell Scott she loved him and that our mom and dad were our guardian angels. I will never forget Auntie Jane. There are no words to describe the void her passing has left on the entire family. The world sure is a darker place without her beautiful smile and her laugh. Rest in Peace and fly high with Uncle Pat. Always remembered and never forgotten.
