Maude was born to Captain Robert and Alice (nee Wagg) Spurrell of Badger’s Quay, NL, the youngest of 6 children – brothers Frank, Claude, Wilfred and Edwin Spurrell and sister Marion Lafond.
She married Ron Marshall of St. John’s and they lived in Nova Scotia for almost 60 years where Ron passed away in 2018.
Maude returned to St. John’s in 2020 where she fully enjoyed spending time with her in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a circle of close and caring friends who will miss her greatly.
Leaving to mourn are daughter Lori (Mark Sheppard) and sons Mark (Daphne) and Robert (Tram). Also her grandchildren Joel, Nathanael, Gabrielle, Alison and Illythia and great-grandchildren Felicity, Cecilia, Samuel, and Simon.
Special thanks to the staff at Chancellor park for their exceptional care during her illness.
Cremation has taken place and there will be visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home between 10:30 a.m. – 12:30p.m. on Thursday July 24. A church service will be held at the Anglican Cathedral at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24.
She will be interned with her husband at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa at a later date.

I was sorry to learn of Aunt Maude’s passing. I phoned her on her Birthday Jun 17 & didn’t get a reply thinking she was busy getting all her messages. I planned on visiting her when I return for a visit in mid Aug. I was pleased to visit her last Oct with Gloria & Les. She was the last of the Spurrell family. We enjoyed with her visits in NS prior to moving to Nl. I was always impressed with Aunt Maude. She was smart, had a good business sense, great personality , great laugh and always kept in style.
She will be sadly missed

Dear Lori,
Our sincere condolences to you and your brothers on the death of your dear mother. As well, our special love to Alison. Your mom was a dear friend to my mother, and they shared many happy times together that will never be forgotten. It has been a stressful time for you, especially over the past several months, but thank God your mom is now at peace with her husband, Ron. So sorry for the loss of Aunt Maude. Sad to see her suffer these last months. Out thoughts are with you all.
Maude was truly A special neighbour whose kindness, warmth and grace shone in everything she done. Maude always brought light, laughter and a calm presence whenever she was around. Maude had a way of making people feel seen and valued and that was a rare and beautiful quality. We felt truly grateful to have her as a neighbour.
It is with a saddened heart we offer our condolences to the family of Maud. It has been a wonderful friendship for us with Maud as we shared many great times together over meals and numerous outings. A great lady with class has gone to be with her maker our Father Almighty. May she rest in peace. A child of God, a faithful servant and a defender of the Anglican faith she has lived a life to the fullest. Free from pain now Maud soar with the cardinals to the heavens to your home of eternal peace. So proud to have called you our personal friend. We love you Maudie, another shiny “dime” especially for us. You are forever in our prayers and in our hearts. God Bless you, RIP.
