Maura Elizabeth Beam (nee Bailey) left this world unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 25th, encompassed by love from her chosen family, Pam & Owen Crossan, Hilary & Justin Brennan, and Bob Thorburn.

Predeceased by father Ira, mother Eileen, and brothers John and Keith Bailey.

Leaving to mourn is a large circle of close and lifelong friends, too many to name.

A special thank you to Dr. Erin Wilson for going above and beyond to take such great care of Blitz.

Maura lived a full and vibrant life. She graduated as a registered nurse, and was head of the Poison Control department at the old Janeway hospital for many years. She ran for the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. She traveled to many countries and continents, experiencing some of life’s greatest marvels. She had a rich social life, never one to miss an event, where she was known for her robust and infectious laugh. She was a loyal and loving friend, with a true heart of gold. The greatest joys of her life were the many schnauzers she loved over the years, and she will be missed greatly by her Blitz.

Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Monday, March 3rd from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A farewell to Maura will be held in Carnell’s chapel at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4th.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a pet charity of one’s choice may be made in Maura’s memory

To Maura I just discover of your Passing.. I remember you as a young Nurse, and I as a young Doctor taking care of sick patients in ICU both day and night. You were very competent Nurse, and a good friend.. you will be missed. May yo\u rest in Peace. David

Oh Maura, I only hope that you knew how loved you were.! Your send off was exceptional, and Pam was correct in saying that you would have loved to have been there……..I agree!

You never told me of your “hay days”. Now that I’ve seen all the photos of your many holidays, cruises, and fu-loving life, I feel so happy for you.. I just wish that I knew you back then.

As a relatively new friend to you, I saw a low energy and non enthusiastic gal, so this new revelation fills my heart with joy!

So, farewell dear Maura. I hope it’s true that we’ll all meet again in an afterlife. And, rest up, because I want to experience the fun-loving, high spirited gal in you that all your friends are telling me about. Lovingly, Carolyn (Derek too).

Only learning about Maura’s passing today and am saddened.I knew Maura well from my career as an RN for thirty years at Janeway .We had many great laughs together and I always enjoyed knowing her .Maura had a very joyful approach to life no matter the circumstances and enjoyed it to the fullest. She will be missed by all who knew her .RIP Maura 🩷

Sincere sympathy on Maura’s passing.
She was a classmate of mine at the GHSN, class of 1967..
May she rest in peace.
Jane

To Maura’s chosen Family and many Dear Friends, I am very sad to learn of Maura’s passing but so very happy to have known her, a friend, a Sister. Her living Life to the fullest and enjoying what was offered, if we listened to her actions, her being, there was much to learn. Her knowledge which she generously shared was wide; from nursing, poison control, basis of natural medicine, law, politics, animals,Travel and much, much more. She had a special place in our Family as she so openingly welcomed our children . From young ages where playing with her new puppies was a thrill, hosting a farewell circle as we departed NL and later hosting our adult Daughter in her home, all with an open heart. Memories of Maura’s Love, Life and Light will live within our hearts. Flora, Stephen, Kelin and Kristin Boyd

My sincere Condolences to Maura’s family and friends. I only meet Maura recently but it did not take long talking to her to realize this was a woman with a larger than life personality! I’m sure she will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences to Maura’s family and friends
May she rest in peace:

Condolences to Maura’s family and friends. I remember her from working at the Janeway Hosp in Pleasantville.

My deepest sympathy on the news of Maura’s passing. Condolences to her family and friends. The class of 1967 General hospital school of nursing will be sadder at future reunions without her presence. Rest in peace Maura.. Claudia (Fiander) and Brian Shortall

To my Dearest Maura,

The day you left, you took a part of each of us. But in return, you blessed us with a lifetime of colourful memories.

Everyone here on earth should have a “Maura” in their lives. A compassionate, vivacious, and irreplaceable special lady. Stories of her travels and adventures are legend. Her parties as “hostess” unforgettable. Her wide circle of beloved friends, testament to the lives she enriched, especially Blitz. And it must be said: God, she could make you laugh!

I miss you now, always and forever….

“The little one”, Shirley

Our deepest condolences to Maura’s family and friends. We have been neighbours of hers for as I can remember.
Will miss our visits and chats.

Saddened to hear of Maura’s sudden passing . Maura was a dear friend to our family for a very long time . I looked after her home and cared for her many beloved schnauzers when she travelled on her many adventures. Three of my beloved Shnauzers came from Maura and I have countless fond memories of our times together. Maura had an infectious laugh and eyes that smiled. Rest easy.

I can see it now! Meeting up with all your Schnauzer Snuffs (as we called them) who have crossed the golden bridge and were hangin’ out waiting for you. There will be no peace for awhile and that’s for sure. Maura, when things have settled down, rest peacefully for a little while. I know you will be a busy lady soon enough what with re-acquainting with old buds and socializing with everyone up there. John

With sadness, I write my condolences to those
who cared for and loved Maura. I was looking at our texts
over the past few years. Maura was always concerned and kind,
upbeat, full of fun and frolic. I have not seen her often since COVID-19, but we stayed in touch. You will be missed my friend. Be at Peace.

On behalf of the members of the General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, I wish to express our deepest sympathies at the recent passing of Maura. She will be remembered during the roll call and minute of silence honoring deceased graduates at our annual Alumni Dinner. Her name will also be entered into our Memorial Book of Deceased graduates of the General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni.
Sincerely,
Michele Case on behalf of
Linda MacPhearson, President
General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni.

Maura did indeed live a full and vibrant life so it was quite a surprise to lean today that she has left us. I too have many memories of working with Maura in numerous capacities over the years and also knowing her socially. She will be missed but her legacy will certainly live on.

Maura was an extraordiniary woman indeed! Maura was loved by many and will be missed by many. She has created a VOID. Did Maura have a mission? She might have said this …
“My mission in life is not merely
to survive but to thrive and to do
so with some passion, some compassion,
some humour, and some style.”
‘ Maya Angelou’
“Rest in Peace Maura”

Thinking of you all….I met Maura when I worked as a nurse in the old Janeway ER. She was such a vibrant soul who loved a good laugh. Fly high Maura and keep the glam going! ♥️

So sorry for you loss 💔

Maura, you will be missed and remembered so fondly! You were so kind to host Christina’s stagette at your beautiful home and we’ve shared many more fun moments! My heart goes out to everyone who mourns you especially Pam, Hilary, Justin and Owen. xoxo
