Obituary

It is with great sadness and heartbreak, but with huge gratitude for her long happy life, we announce the peaceful passing of a very dear mother, grandmother, sister-in law, aunt and dear friend, Muriel Long, 94 years of age on Monday, February 19, embraced in the arms of her loving family.

Predeceased by her parents Amelia and Abia Purchase, Husband Harold James Long, infant son Paul and all of her siblings.  Leaving to morn with fond and loving memories, her children: Gerry (Rosemarie), Stan (Barb),Elizabeth (Lee), Rick (Sandra), Harold James (Jim) (Annmarie), Christine (Wayne), Maxse (Mickey) (Terry); 18 grandchildren (whom referred to her as Nanny Moo); 16 great- grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; special sister-in-law and lifetime friend, Audrey Coffin; sisters-in-law Florence Purchase, Winne Long, Viola Long; life time friend Barb Moores; nieces and nephews, her loving cabin buddies, numerous friends and devoted dog, Ollie.

She was a truly gentle soul who will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.  A very special thank you to the staff at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital 7 East and especially the staff of the PCU at the Miller Centre for their care and compassion they showed her in her final days and a special thank you to Reverend Canon Iliffe Sheppard for his many visits.

Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road from 12 noon – 9 p. m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. – 9 p. m. Thursday. Funeral service will take place on Friday, February 23rd, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the Anglican Cathedral. Interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road.

Mrs Long’s Family
So very sorry for your loss. Mrs Long was a longtime customer of Lawtons Mount Pearl. She was loved by the staff past and present. She always had that big smile on her face . She was full of spirit and spunk that brought us to laughter everytime she spoke. Beautiful lady inside and out,bless her heart.

Rick, deepest sympathy on the passing of your much loved Mother. You look so muck like her. Know that her gentle soul is now resting peacefully in the loving arms of our Saviour. Until you all meet again, rest in love Mrs. Long.

It’s been a while since I have seen Aunt Muriel, but I remember her as a very fun-loving generous person whose cup of life was never half empty but always half full. She always saw the best in people and made the most of every situation, good or bad. May you find great comfort in your memories of your Mom.

So sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. She is surely going to be missed especially by your country friends. She was so outgoing and friendly. My best memory of her was her different strands of coloured hair at the horseshoe tournament.

So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing.I spent many a hours at you home on Prowse Ave. She was like a second mom in those days.You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Aunt Moo was one of my most favorite people in the world. I remember growing up with her always comeing to visit with every visit and every phone call ending with her saying “Love you Baby”. She was a wonderful woman and she will be forever loved and missed my so many and never forgotten
