It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Myrna Hoffe (nee Ball), at age 91.
Myrna Hoffe, departed this world at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on July 18, 2025 with her son, Ron, by her side. She was a dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, wife, and aunt and friend. Myrna had a sweet, quiet and caring disposition, but could certainly be fiery at times if she felt you weren’t listening! She was also hardworking and determined in the face of adversity. She was devoted to her family, friends, and a great contributor to her faith community over the years. Born in Millertown, NL in 1933, she grew up in a family of 9 brothers and sisters. As a young woman, she worked as a telephone operator with the A.N.D. Company in Millertown before meeting and marrying her husband, Harvey, there. Together they lived in various towns on the island as her family grew including Grand Falls, Stephenville Crossing, Corner Brook, and later in life, Kelligrews, St. John’s, Mount Pearl and finally, Stittsville, ON where she moved in 2013 to be nearer family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Leaving to mourn, sons: Gary (Cathy), Ottawa; Ron (Toni), Ottawa; Brian (Kate), Calgary; daughter: Lisa (Stephen), Mount Pearl; brothers: Bryce (Liz), Halifax; Wendell (Marg), Bishop’s Falls; grandchildren: Erin (Nick), St. John’s; Brendan (Courtney), Ottawa; Julia (Matt), Toronto; Jan (Megan), Ottawa; Nicolas, Ottawa; Sam (Emily), Calgary; William (Isabelle), Calgary; great grandson: Oliver, St. John’s; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Harvey, parents Lucy and Dorman Ball, older brothers Harrison, Clifford, and older sisters Frances, Lillian, Rowena, and her younger sister, Alice.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the medical team at Ottawa Civic Hospital and especially to the kind and patient staff in the Garden Suite at Granite Ridge Long Term Care Home, in Stittsville, where she was cared for every day.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service for Myrna Hoffe is being held on Saturday, October 18th at 2pm at the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd, 111 Richard Nolan Drive, Mount Pearl, NL A1N 3A9. A reception will take place following the service in the parish hall.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ottawa Dementia Society or the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Sincere condolences to Brian & family members on the passing of Merna. I am Gerald Hoffe’s sister, Carol (Hoffe) Mercer. I remember Harvey & Merna visiting my parents on South Side Road, St. John’s. Gerald spoke of Brian visiting him in Chapels Cove discussing genealogy.
. God Bless, my prayers are with you at this difficult time.
Gary, Ron, Brian and Lisa, our deepest condolences on the passing of your Mom.. We have many precious memories of Corner Brook days and again when your Mom was at Masonic Park. She was a great friend of my Mom and our Dads worked together. Thinking of you as you celebrate your Mom’s life. Cherish the special memories.
Condolences to her family
Gary, Ron, Brian and Lisa and families, so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. It was only recently I was thinking about your mom and wondering how she was.
I have great memories of Corner Brook visiting your family with my family. Our dads worked together and your mom was a great friend to my mom in later years in Masonic Park – they shared many good times together.
Take care of yourselves and each other.
Hope to see you at the service in Oct.
