It is with profound sadness that the family of Neil McLeod announces his sudden passing on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born on June 04 1936, Neil lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, and service to others.
Neil was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret McLeod of 56 years and his cherished son, Chris McLeod.
Leaving to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his devoted daughter, Deanne McLeod; his beloved granddaughter, Cassandra; his treasured grandsons, Kade and Christian; his dear sister, Barb; as well as many extended family members, lifelong friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
Neil was an exceptional soccer athlete whose passion for the game remained with him throughout his life. He was a dedicated supporter of the Mount Pearl Soccer Association, where he was well known and respected for his love of the game, his encouragement of young players, and his enduring commitment to the soccer community.
He dedicated many years of faithful service to Newfoundland Light & Power, where he earned the respect of his colleagues through his integrity, dependability, and strong work ethic.
A man of deep faith, Neil generously gave of his time through his church, where he also sang in the choir, quietly serving others with humility and compassion. His dedication to his parish and to the community reflected the values by which he lived. St. Vincent de Paul, a cause that reflected his lifelong compassion and generosity toward others.
Neil’s greatest joy was his family. His legacy of love, kindness, faith, sportsmanship, and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, on Sunday, June 28, 2026. from 12-4pm and 7-9pm.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Neil’s life will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Our Lady, Queen of Families Parish, 110 Ashford Drive, Mount Pearl at 10:30am. Reception to follow at the parish hall. Burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Neil’s memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, kindness, and support received during this difficult time.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family on Neil’s passing. We volunteered with Neil at the St. Vincent de Paul food bank. He always came in with a smile on his face and often a joke to tell. He will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace!

To Neil’s family, Ross and I were so happy to talk to Neil on my birthday, June 23rd, Neil always called on my birthday without fail since we worked together at NL Power. So shocked to hear of his passing three days later. Christmas Eve parties at our house were always filled with laughter and fun, mainly because of Neil.
He will be missed by all the people he touched in his life.
So sorry we couldn’t attend the wake or the church service.

Neil was a dear man full of kindness,and love for his fellow man.He had a wonderful singing voice and was part of our Saturday choir for many years at Our Lady Queen of Families parish.I also knew Neil as long time volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul at Mary Queen of the World parish,sharing his love for those less fortunate. Sorry for your loss just seeing this. I remember your Dad fondly from my time as a summer student at Nfld Power and then from church in Mt Pearl. He always had a smile and will be remembered for his humour and kindness

We were all shocked to hear of Neil’s passing. He was such a sweet man with witty charm. He loved to give hugs to the ladies with a smile and if you were really lucky, a kiss on the hand.
Neil loved to play cards with friends from the Mount Pearl Seniors Independence Group (MPSIG). He could light up a room with his presence. We will dearly miss him. Praying you will feel peace and comfort during this difficult time. From the Board and Staff of the MPSIG.

I played soccer with Neil in Mt. Pearl and I was always amazed that he played the game with so much energy even though he was years older than me. It was always good to chat with him after the game.. What an easy going and friendly guy he was..

Sending my sincere condolences to you all, Neil was a favourite of mine at the clinic. Seeing his smiling positive face every month surely gave me something to look forward to for the past 5 years. He had a way of brightening the room the moment he walked into it. I will truly miss our banter going forward and the biggest smile he’d bring to my face everytime he walked in the door. I was shocked to hear of Neil’s sudden passing on June 26th just a few weeks after his 90th birthday. I knew him when we were in the Saturday choir together with Our Lady Queen of Families parish. He was such a friendly person and was well liked by everyone. Rest in peace Neil!
Deanne & family, as many other have noted, I too worked with Neil at NPower for a number of years & like others found him to be a very unique, caring individual, once you knew him you would never forget him. I also lived in Mt. Pearl and knew how valued & committed he was to his community. May he rest in peace having just achieved his 90th.
I am very sorry to hear of Neil’s sudden passing. He was a soccer buddy of my husband Andy for over 40 years, a family man and gentleman of the highest calibre. What a shock! I was talking only to him on Tuesday and he was looking forward to the Hall of Fame banquet the following night. He was known at “Tank” but off the field he was a gentle man and a gentleman. He made a great contribution to Mount Pearl. May God shine his light on him. from Harold Stapleton!

We were both shocked and saddened to hear of Neil’s sudden passing. We always had a chat at the Nfld Power socials. Neil rarely missed any. He always looked and acted like someone much younger than his age, full of life and always ready for a laugh. I played soccer with Neil in Mt. Pearl for many years and often said I’m glad I played on the same team. No one was safe from Neil on the opposing team.
Neil will be missed by you all but you have many memories to cherish.

Our sincere condolences to the McLeod family on the passing of a tremendous man.
My father Bill Pearce was a friend of Neil’s since the 80’s when they played soccer together. The last couple of years of my Dads life Neil was an exceptional friend, picking him up faithfully every Tuesday for the MPSA alumni coffee get together, with Neil often teasing my Dad that he better have gas money.

I have known Neil since we went to school together and have kept in touch ever since both at work he at Nfld. Light and Power and me at Nfld.
