Leaving to honor him with precious memories, are his beloved wife Agnes (Pender), daughter Angela (Robert), son Chris (Tiffany), treasured grandchildren Jessica and Dennis Greeley and Daniel and Steven Collins. Remembering him with love also are his brothers Clyde, Jake (Diane), and Gary (Kate), and his sisters Elizabeth (Bruce), and Marilyn, and special brother in law Pat Pender and sister in law Martha Pender. Also to mention, are special god daughters and niece’s Tina Robinson and Michelle Pender-Bhattacharya, as well as many other nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.
Norm’s legacy will also be carried throughout the large circle of friends, acquaintances, coworkers and community that he has built over the course of his lifetime. His career with the Newfoundland Liquor Corporation carried him into retirement after 30yrs. His passion for politics brought him to also work with the town of Portugal Cove St. Philips, for 20 years, serving as Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillor. He also volunteered with The Lions Club and the St Lawrence Church Men’s Group and facilitated many fundraising events over the years. Norms love of music, fellowship and celebration, lead him to over 50 years of playing instruments and singing in bands, entertaining at parties, functions and cookhouses, and DJing for events in the community for many years. Music brought him joy to the very end.
Above all else, Norms heart and purpose was always with his family, the people he loved as family, and to his community. He was an outstanding individual in the lives of many people. All that knew Norm know that he lived his life “Norm’s Way”.
Norm and his family would like to express thanks to Dr Stefanelli and his associates, the team at the Miller Centre, and the amazing staff of medical professionals at the Health Sciences Centre for carrying him through his end of life journey over the past few years. Also thank you to Cheryl Power and the ALS society, for all they have done for him and provided during his illness. Special appreciation goes to his care worker Ayo, who joined his care team for a short while, but made a big impact.
Most importantly, and personally, Norm wanted to thank his devoted wife of 50 years, and best friend Agnes. They shared an amazing, full life, structured with family, fun and laughter. Agnes’ love, care and support throughout Norms illness gave him the strength and will to fight as long as he did.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday October 5th from 11AM – 9PM.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, October 6th, at 2PM from St. Lawrence Anglican Church, Portugal Cove with inurnment to follow. A reception will also be held at St. Lawrence following the inurnment.

I worked with Mr.Collins 20 years ago. He was a great public servant in his many roles . He was an advocate and champion for the town of Portugal cove-St.Phillips and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Norm was a great friend and he helped many people.
My condolences to his wife family and friends.
Your kindness and empathy shown will continue on with those who you have helped along your journey.
His favorite words. ” another contribution to the local economy “. and after that ” I wish everybody could just get along”. We played golf at Pitchers pond before it opened in 2005 at the insistence of Ray Tuck. and we played it throughout the years even when nobody else knew why. “But I do ” and I shall never forget.. Until we meet again. Walter
