It is with very heavy hearts the family of Patricia Frances Vivian announce her passing on July 2nd, 2024 at the age of 83, joining her husband Gordon Vivian who passed away in March of last year (2023).
Predeceased by her parents Frank and Louisa Fisher (Turner). Parents in-law Stanley and Blanche Vivian. Sister-in-law Lorraine Stanley (2005), son-in-law John Brazill (2016), brother-in-law Charles Squires (2023), sister-in-law Bonnie Vivian Whittle (2023), brother-in-law Albert Stanley (2023).
Leaving to mourn her loss is her only daughter Sherry Vivian (Bruce). Her two Grandchildren Donovan Vivian-Parsons and Carmen Vivian-Brazill (Joey). Her only sibling, sister Faith Squires (Charles, deceased) of St. John’s. And her In-laws Jim and Alice Vivian, Howard and Christine Sooley of Hearts Delight-Islington. Also nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends.
A true townie girl, Pat grew up in St. John’s. She attended high school at St. Michaels. As a teenager she worked at – what used to be – Linegars store on Freshwater road. After that she worked for many years at Ayres stores downtown, then at Bowrings, and later at Ayres Home Hardware. In 1964, townie Pat married bayman Gord. They moved to Mount Pearl in the 1970s where they resided up until a few years ago when they moved to Paradise to be closer to family. In their younger years, she and Gord, enjoyed square dancing with The Avalon Stompers.
Pat loved Elvis, country music and cats. As soon as you walked into her home, there was no doubt she was an insufferable Elvis fan. His face and memorabilia was everywhere. She also loved and collected anything that played music, talked, danced, or lit up, with the push of a button. The house would always be alive with some ornament or oddity that would come to life at any moment. And every occasion was a cause to decorate, no matter how tacky or cheesy. Especially Halloween and Christmas. She loved when young kids would visit so she could show off her treasures, by turning each one on, most often all at once! And she loved country music. All the old classic country music. Knew all the artists and every word to all their songs. Her home ALWAYS had music playing, usually with VOWR on the radio, it would be the first thing you hear when opening her door. The silence now is heartbreaking.
The family would like to thank the staff at HSC 4SA who looked after mom for her short time there. But most special heartfelt thanks to dear friend (sister-in-law) Perri Brazill who made mom’s last moments with us so special. You are truly an angel here on earth.
Cremation has taken place. No formal service at this time. The family wishes to honour her with a celebration when her granddaughter Carmen can return home from Vancouver, BC upon graduation.
Because of mom’s love for animals, donations in her name can be made to the SPCA.
