A child of Patrick Kemp and Ellen (Meade) Kemp left this earthly world on January 11.
Patricia’s partner in life, Cyril, married since 1953, will miss her very much. She was his rock!
She leaves behind her children: Gail (Garrett) Gosse, Gary (Joy), Jane (Roy Naugler), Peter (Bernice), and Andrew (Karen); her grandchildren Anthony and Ryan Gosse, Holly and Kelsey Morgan, and Abigail (Abby) and Samuel (Sam) Morgan; her great-grandchildren Logan, Catherine, and Josephine (Josie) Gosse.
Before her marriage, she was a pre-med student at Memorial College. After marriage, Patricia was a stay-at-home mother with a thirst for knowledge; books fed her curiosity and puzzles kept her thinking at that time. When her youngest entered kindergarten, she returned to MUN. Where she convocated with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Political Science with a minor in French. She loved languages and travelling to learn about other cultures.
She was a superb hostess who loved nothing more than organizing a large dinner party enjoyed by family, friends, and neighbours. Her favorite event was the Boxing Day Buffet for the extended family. Patricia was an excellent cook and baker, who delighted in experimenting with new recipes.
Passionate about knitting and sewing, Patricia spent many evenings working on her projects. For her children she made countless sweaters, coats, dresses, Halloween costumes, recital outfits, and mittens – which her children were reluctant to admit how many went missing.
Patricia loved gardens and gardening. She was a long-time volunteer at the MUN Botanical Gardens. Her own property was a fine example of an Old English Garden. We learned to only ask her what the name of a particular plant was if we were prepared for a lengthy explanation of its Latin name, complete with the genus and family classification.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia’s name can be made to the Iris Kirby House, or to a charity of one’s choice.
The family will be accepting visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, located at 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday January 16 from 3-7pm. A funeral service will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday January 17 at 11am, with a reception to follow in the lower lounge area. Inurnment will take place at Anglican Cemetery on Kenmount Road, Thursday January 18 at 10am.
Please note that Carnell’s is a nut free building due to a staff member with a severe allergy. Thank you for your understanding.
