To the O’Callaghan Family, our deepest condolences for the loss of the always positive center of your lives. I first met Paddy at regular lunches with assorted business contacts at the round table in the corner of the dining room of the “old” Hotel Newfoundland when he was Manager. We had many contacts over the years, with the last real one being at Ken Richards Retirement at the “new” Hotel Newfoundland a few years ago when he was ailing but , as usual, we had a great chat. On every occasion Paddy had that welcome smile of energy and warmth. That’s how he will be remembered – a welcome bright. spot in your day! We’re sure the memories will serve the family well..
I started my business in 1976 at One Military Road, where Coffee Matters now operates. I was doing commercial photography and selling a few landscapes on the side..
One day in 1978, Pat O’Callaghan walked in, introduced himself and wondered if I might be interested in opening a gallery in the “old” Hotel Newfoundland, in the spot Harvey’s Travel was vacating.
I was gobsmacked. Why on earth would I open a second location across the street?
Pat pointed out the exposure to travelers for my Newfoundland photography, offered a month-to-month rent with no strings, and then added a clincher. “It’s not public yet, but we’re going to build a “new” hotel soon, and I’ll try to get you a good spot in it, if you like.” So, I had nothing to lose.
My little gallery was successful in the first month. Three years later, with Pat’s help, I moved into the prime spot in the new hotel, right in the lobby, albeit with a much higher rent.
43 years later, I am still there. Next year I hope to celebrate 50 years in business. All thanks to Pat O’Callaghan dropping in with a question.
So, thank you, Pat, for being in my life. Rest in Peace, friend. You did a damn fine job.
Paula we were so sorry to hear that Patrick had passed away. He was such a presence and always had that twinkle in his eye! Eric and I wish you and all the family comfort and peace in your wonderful memories.

Dear Paula.
On behalf of the O’Rafferty family, please accept our heartfelt condolences. We have a longstanding connection to Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin where Pat spent his final days. We are so sorry for your profound loss. May he rest in peace..
Sending my sincerest condolences to Paula, Matthew, Kathleen & families.
Patrick was a very special man with a golden heart. I worked for him for over 20 years & always had respect & admiration for him.
I believe that success if not measured by the size of your house or the kind of car we drive, however it’s measured by the way we positively affect the lives of others.
Patrick was a very successful business man because he accepted people for who they were & treated everyone equal whether wealthy or poor. . He always welcomed everyone with a smile.
Fly high with the angels Patrick. Your legacy will certain live on.
Pat was a man with a vision – he saw what the opportunity in offshore catering was, and seized that opportunity. Unlike many others, he was a “people first” practitioner, and valued his co-workers above all.
I was privileged to know Pat for nearly 50 years, and my heart goes out to his family on his loss…
RIP, old friend
R.I.P. Paddy.
I worked with Pat many years ago and I’ve thought of him often over the years. He was such a nice and caring individual so much so that I will always remember and think of him. My deepest condolences to you all.

Passing. He was such a good man and he accomplished so much, including helping those less fortunate than himself.. sending our deepest condolences to all the family. We will be away at the time of the tribute or we would surely be there.
I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting this fine man. I did know of his and his wife’s large donation to the Gathering Pl. which will help many.
When visiting Dublin I will remember to tip a glass in his memory.
To his family, please accept our condolences.
