Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Phyllis Barfoot, on May 17th, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas Barfoot; parents Gordon and Jessie Vaters; brothers Eugene, Perry, and Harris (Louise) and Irvin Vaters. Brothers-in-law George (Eileen), Clarence (Beryl) Barfoot, sisters-in-law Edna (Buck), Jaroma, Dulcie (Andy) Little John.
Left with fond and loving memories are her daughters Daphne (Paul) Rodgers, Wanda (Dennis) French; grandchildren Douglas and Paula Rodgers, Melissa (Shane) Richards, and Max French; brothers Lindbergh (Loretta), Lionel (Rosemary) Vaters; sister-in-law Ruby Vaters. As well as her nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends, especially those from The Hub. The family would like to give a special thank you to Lynn, her hairdresser and Julia Nash , who unconditionally cared for their mother.
Memorial service for Phyllis will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel, at 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday May 20th, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery on Kenmount Road.
Donations can be made in Phyllis’ memory, to a donation of one’s choice.

So sorry to hear of your mother’s passing .I’ve known your parents since I was a child myself and now that was an awfully long time ago. Where have the years gone so quickly. It seems like it was no time ago when we we’re the young crowd on Feild Street and now here we are but then that’s life..
Another Feild Street Superstar has gone home . May God guide her safely to her Heavenly Home and grant her the peace and rest she deserves. Your Mother was a really fine woman and you should all be proud to call her your Mother.

Julia Nash. Thinking of you as I read this obituary for Phyllis. What a true and faithful friend you were to Phyllis ever since she moved into St. Georges Court. With her failing eyesight and difficultly in walking, , It was you Julia, who got Phyllis to her hair appointments and back.. You made sure Phyllis never missed an outing, event or activity at the HUB. You enabled Phyllis to take part in all the Senior’s Bingo at St. Georges Court. The same for our Senior’s Program. You safely got Phyllis on the bus and into the venue of all our outings and programs. You were the one who tended to all her needs. Julia, you were a genuine friend. I was always amazing with the time, caring, patience and forgiveness you always showed Phyllis and you did all this from the kindness and love you have in your heart. You never looked for anything in return.. Julia, you have earned your wings here on earth. LOVE

To the Rogers, French and Vaters families from the Barfoot/Jaroma family from the US we are terribly sorry for your loss. Aunt Phyllis was a wonderful Aunt and a special woman. She was truly loved by all and gave that love back tenfold! She will be truly missed but you all have wonderful memories to hold tight! You are in our thoughts and prayers!

Phyllis was a long time participant with the City’s of St. John’s seniors recreation programming. She was always very appreciative of our programs and always supported what we do. She will be dearly missed at our community outreach at St. George’s Court, bingos and socials and our summer bus tours. Phyllis over the last while wasn’t able to fully participate like she use too, but we stayed in touch and loved hearing from her. I will cherish our last conversation and always know that she will always be remembered. Thinking of all her family at this time, she truly thought the world of you all.
