We are so very sorry to hear of Quong’s passing. Fond memories of family visits during our childhood years plus catching up at the annual flower service in August. Quong was a good natured kinda guy who always had a smile for all. Sending heartfelt condolences to the Jim and Gillingham families during this difficult time. May beautiful memories keep him near.

To the Jim Family:

Quong Jim was simply a titan in Baie Verte and across the entire Baie Verte Peninsula. Everyone knew him, everyone had a “JIm” story because he touched so many people personally.

I’ve had the privilege of spending many hours at the Jim house and restaurant (maybe too many…). My father counted Mr. Jim as one of his very best friends. I’ve heard so many stories around foolishness that they’d get into and I can’t help but laugh as they come to mind.

My sincerest condolences to Johnny, David and Jason and their families. While Mr. Jim is gone, he certainly will never be forgotten.

To the Jim family,
The Jim family is an icon to an era well known for their input and interaction with the people of Baie Verte and the surrounding area. From the earliest days of ‘Jims Restaurant,’ you became a welcoming gathering place and friends to all. Many found their first job at ‘Jims’ and speak of how well they were treated by the Jim family. Qoung ( ‘Jim’, to us) is specially mentioned for his work ethic and his later cooking skills. Those skills in fact were used as the gold standard for future comparison. When someone would mention they had Chinese food outside of Baie Verte, the question was often asked, ” Was it as good as Jim’s “?
We remember when May came to be Quong’s wife. She was absolutely beautiful. Dressed in a bright yellow dress, she would emerge from the kitchen area with Quong closely following with the biggest smile on his face, you could barely see his eyes for weeks. May quickly won the hearts of all who knew her and her tragic passing was deeply felt by the entire community. We got to know their children and siblings with fondness and with Johnny being like another son and Pat as family. With Quong’s passing an era has all but closed and we are in a state of solidarity with you in your mourning and remembering the joys of a remarkable man.

God Bless, Bruce and Sarah Mercer
