Regina Angel (nee Cantwell)

December 18, 1948 to April 5, 2025

Obituary

Passed away suddenly but peacefully at her home, on Saturday, April 5, 2025 Regina (Cantwell) Angel.

Predeceased by her husband, Gerald P. Angel; her parents, Frank and Margaret Cantwell; parents-in-law, Gerald and Irene Angel; sister, Dolores Withers; sister-in-laws, Anna Angel Woolgar and Pam Angel; brother-in-laws, Bud Bragg and Bob Squires; beloved niece, Renata Elizabeth Withers. She was a gentle and graceful soul.

Left to mourn her great loss is her daughter, Ashlee (Paul Fleming); and her cherished granddaughter, Emily Fleming (her Little Missy); as well as her brothers and sisters Gerry Cantwell (Dorothy), Ted Cantwell (Donna), Agnes Cantwell, and Helena Bragg; her in-law family Vince Withers, Pat Angel, Bob Angel (Roseanne), John Angel (Ann), and Cathy Squires, Anne Marie and Pat Fleming; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

Regina spent her early years at Cape Spear Lighthouse. Later, she moved to St. John’s where she graduated from Holy Heart of Mary Regional High School and St. Clare’s School of Nursing. While at St. Clare’s, she and a group of friends formed a vocal group, The Clarets, and travelled around entertaining at a variety of local functions.

She always insisted on wearing high heels, whether around the house in her feathered slippers, or paired with her nursing uniform during her long shifts. She loved clothes in the latest styles and was always dressed to the nines for special occasions. She had a fabulously mischievous sense of humor, was always laughing, and she loved to share her quick wit and joy with others. She had a great love of family and of spending time with them, and she had a soft spot for all her nephews and nieces.

Aunt Ginie, as she was always affectionately known, was a natural born nurturer. Through her extensive years of nursing and the immense amount of medical knowledge she accrued, she became everyone’s “go to” person for consultations on any kind of medical ailment. When Gina said it was time to go to the doctor, you didn’t waste any time; you went right away. Regina, an Angel in so many ways, will be lovingly remembered by all of those who were touched by her in her path through life.

Ashlee, Paul, and Emily are very grateful and thankful for the support of family and friends during this difficult time.
“We will love you forever, we will love you for always. Forever and beyond my Mommy and Nanny Gina you’ll be. Sweet dreams. Sweet dreams. We love you, goodnight”

Cremation has taken place. No visitation.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 1st, at 11:00 am at St. Teresa’s Church. Mundy Pond Road, followed by inurnment at Belvedere Cemetery.

My sincere condolences to her sister Agnes and the whole family..

To Aunt Regina ,
A style icon , a heart warmer , a fabulous hugger , and an aunt anyone would dream to have and hug. Regina made us laugh , lifted our spirits , inspired my scrabble game and my want to be in style at all events while also she showed us how to listen , to help and to be oneself. We are unable to attend services May 1st as we are out of the country. But we will be thinking of you all in this difficult time and making our donation for your cause. Love Greg Woolgar and Lori Power.
