Renée Irene Penney

July 16, 1947 to September 18, 2022

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the Health Sciences Center.

Predeceased by her parents Leander Mercer and Effie Mercer Granter and sister Carol Mercer.

Renee leaves too many to mourn with loving memories; her husband Reverend Ken of 53 years; daughter Heather Ryan (Sean) and sons David Penney and Jonathan Penney (Patricia); seven grandchildren, Caleb, Aidan, Darcy, Abigail, Leander, Jack and Hazel; sister Jean Mercer (Stan Briggs-deceased) and brother Thom Mercer (Lynn); sisters-in-law Penney Pollard (Doug), Carol Hann (Foster-deceased) and brother-in-law Jim Penney (Loretta). Renee will also be missed by many special nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.

Renee was a retired nurse. She graduated from The General Hospital School of Nursing in 1968. She worked as a nurse and nursing instructor until she retired in 2007.  Renee was very active in the Anglican Church not only in her own ministry as a Eucharistic minister, Reader and ACW member but also in support of Ken’s many roles within the Anglican Church.

We will miss her strength, her guidance and the love she had for us all.

The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Friday, September 23rd from 2pm to 4pm and again from 7pm to 9pm.  The funeral service will be held at St. Thomas’ Church, 8 Military Road, on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 2pm with internment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery on Forest Road.

Donations in her honor can be made to the Kidney foundation of Canada or to St. Thomas’ Anglican Church, St. John’s.
