It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Richard Joseph Gough, aged 78, announce his passing on Monday, November 7, 2022. Richard passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by his loving family.
Predeceased by his parents William and Marion Gough of St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s Bay, and sister Mary Aquinas.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of fond and loving memories his wife Barbara, daughters Anne Taite (Brian), Christine Avery (Aaron), and son William (Katherine); cherished grandchildren Lauren, Holly and Ethan; sister Marcella Power (Fred-dec.), brother Martin (Augusta); sister-in-law Judy Grimmer (Geoff) of Melbourne, Australia and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; especially Gord Hunt, who was so supportive to Richard and his family in his final days.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and doctors of 5 South B for their exceptional care of Richard and compassionate attention to his family.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, November 9 from 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Thursday, November 10 at 11 a.m. The funeral service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
Donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the Cancer Care Foundation.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Gough.
Although it has been several years since I last saw him, I have nothing but fond memories. Whenever I hear the phrase “ strong and silent type“, he was one of the first people that would come to mind. Firm and industrious, pleasant and kind. I did not know about his illness, although I know he likely carried his burden with grace, fortitude and dignity.

I have many beautiful memories of him–coasting down over Gough’s hill on our Champion sleighs, walking to Phonse’s store in the evenings for a bottle of beer ( we called it beer but in reality it was soft drink. ) Attending the dances at Lundrigans in Colinet and on and on the memories surface.. I am crying inside today.
