It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert “Bob” Gollop of St. John’s,  announce his peaceful passing at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 19, 2025, at the age of 81 years. Bob is predeceased by his parents; Hilda and Charles; brothers and sisters; Doug (Audrey), Cyril (Nina), Joan, George (Bella), Jean (Bert), Dave, Roy, Ruby (Ferg); father and mother-in law; Tom and Ida Sullivan; brothers-and-sisters-in-laws; Lorraine, Len, and Craig.

Left to mourn, with a lifetime of love and cherished memories, are his beloved wife of 52 years, Jean Anne (Sullivan); his devoted children and their spouses: Terri Lynn and Dominic Kavanagh, Stephen and Trina Gollop, and Susan and Howard Fitzpatrick; as well as his greatest pride and joy—his six grandchildren: Robert (Chantal), Katherine, Connor, Charlie, Ryan, and Grace.

Remembering him with love are his siblings: Jim (Maisie), Flora (Harold), and Linda (Ern); sisters-in-law, Joyce and Betty; and his extended in-law family: Doris, Shirley (John), Jimmy (Michelle), Monnie (Desi), Colin (Louise), Fabian (Bernice), Tommy (Darlene), Rhoda (Edward), Denise (Mikie), Patrice, Blair (Betty), Rodney (Rita), Ross (Annette), as well as sisters-in-law Diane and Carol. Bob also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who thought very fondly of him

Bob lived his entire life on Major’s Path—a place he held close to his heart. A proud mason by trade, he spent many years working alongside his brothers. Later in life, he joined the City of St. John’s, where he made many lasting friendships and retired in 2016 after years of dedicated service. Bob took great pride in his work, his home, and the life he built—both through his career and in the care he put into maintaining his house and his much-loved cabin in Calvert. His kind heart, quick sense of humour, and deep love for his family will be remembered always.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and friendship throughout Bob’s life, and especially for the kindness and support shown over the past few weeks. We are deeply grateful to his Community Health Nurse, April Adams, whose unwavering compassion and guidance helped us navigate this difficult time.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at the Community Health Centre and Cancer Clinic for their exceptional care, and to Dr. Siddiqui, Bob’s oncologist, for his dedicated and compassionate support.

While flowers are greatly welcome, donations in Bob’s memory may also be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities NL or Jumpstart.

Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Monday, June 23rd, from 2pm – 9pm.

The funeral service will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, June 24th, at 11am.

Got to know Bob and family at a young age . Saw him often on trips home and enjoyed reminiscing about our boyhood with my brother and his family. Playing hockey on the “bog hole “ brings life to friendships.

Aunt Jean Anne, Terri Lynn, Stephen, Susan and families, so sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle Bob. I will always remember whenever Uncle Bob and Dad got together there were always pranks and laughs shared between them. When I started to work with my uncles in their masonry business as a teenager, who knew it all, Uncle Bob would be the one to take me aside and explain the rights the wrongs and have a good work ethic. It’s that advise I still use every day. Cindy and I wish we could be there to celebrate Uncle Bob’s wonderful life and hear all the great stories about him. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Our sincere condolences Jean Ann & family on Bob’s passing .May his gentle soul Rest In Peace

Our deepest condolences to Jean Anne and all the family.

Aunt Jean Anne, Terri, Stephen, Susan and all the family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of Uncle Bob(Snakey) from watching him play hockey on Friday nights when I was just a little girl, to him scaring Zack with the talking Christmas tree and Santa, and hundreds of more memories. I will miss him dearly 💔. I wish I could be with all of you to give you a big hug. I will see you when we arrive home.

My thoughts are with the entire Gollop family as you navigate this tremendous loss.

From the time I was a child, Bob, along with Jean-Anne and the rest of the family, always welcomed me into their home, their cabin, and their lives as if I was one of their own. Having spent so much time around Stephen and Trina, often as a bit of a shadow, I came to know Bob quite well. I remember how he used to tease me, whether it was pretending to cut my hair or jokingly tying my socks together—it was always in good fun. These are memories I think back on and with a smile.

I also have some fond memories of our many joint family dinners, where stories were shared and laughs were had. Bob’s presence was always felt, whether through a witty comment or a chuckle. The next family gathering, the next time I’m home on the Rock, simply won’t be the same without him.

Bob’s kind nature, his humour, and his light-hearted spirit never went unnoticed. As Trina and Stephen started their family, it was heartwarming to see the way Bob (and Jean-Anne) cared for their grandchildren, attending sports games, dropping by in the evenings, always showing up with love.

I know words can only go so far in times like this, but I hope you find some comfort in these shared memories and in knowing how deeply Bob was appreciated by all who knew him.

Sending love and hugs,
Taunya Hann
