Obituary

Robert Justin Baker, age 47, passed peacefully away on January 20, 2022 surrounded by the love of his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents, George and Jean Baker; leaving to mourn with many wonderful memories are his wife, Marianne Baker (nee Carlson); sons, Cole and Myles; father- and mother-in-law, Milton and Mary Carlson; brothers, Perry (Gillian) and Todd Baker; sister-in-law, Megan (Michael) Hiscott; nieces and nephew, Evan and Bree Baker and Mya Hiscott; many aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as colleagues and close friends who were a great source of joy throughout his life and support through his battle with cancer.

Robert will live on through the lives of those who knew him.  He was a fun-loving and goodhearted man, always there with a laugh or a kind word.  Robert had a passion for cycling and running. An avid photographer, Robert had an eye for detail and saw the potential for beauty in everything.  He applied that same energy and meticulous nature to all of his projects. Above all, Robert was devoted to his family and loved ones, and cherished every moment he spent with them.

Thank you to the physicians, nurses and staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Clinic and the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre for their care and compassion. Special thank you to Fatima with the Palliative Health Care Team and Caroline who became a part of our family so quickly.

Cremation to take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home.   Funeral service will take place at a later date by invitation only.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to St. Philip’s Anglican Parish or to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.

I am fortunate to have worked with Rob for roughly ten years. He always had a smile on his face and was so willing to be of assistance. He always answered my call for help with any computer problem I had. Loved his sense of humour! The world could use more Rob Bakers! Sincere condolences to the Baker and Carlson families, friends, and work associates. Rest in peace, dear Rob! You are loved and missed by many. God Bless!

Marianne , Cole , Miles and Todd, I worked with Rob for a few years and was immediately struck by his pleasant, helpful and humourous nature.. His laugh was infectious and it was just a joy to be in his company. A computer whiz and a great photographer – this was outdone by his love for his family. The world seems a little lessened without Rob in it. Rest now my friend – Dave O’Driscoll

Marianne, my deepest condolences to you and your sons. You are a wonderful person and a great mother and I know that you will find the strength to carry on. Rob’s memory, wishes and dreams will always live on with you.

Robyn, Lenny and Leonard Sullivan

I was so saddened to hear of Robert’s passing. I was one of the group who Rob hung out with in junior high and high school. He always had a smile and a joke with us. Everything I know about Larry Bird and the Celtics was courtesy of Rob. I remember him being obsessed with Star Trek: TNG at the time as well. I don’t know if that stayed with him, but it did me, that and what a good soul he was. I will always remember him fondly. God bless you and your family.

Marianne, so sorry to hear this news. Our hearts go out to you and your family during this difficult time. Hugs.

To Todd, Perry and Family, sending caring thoughts and sincere sympathy to you all, “God Bless “

Marianne and Family, sorry for your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. I meet Rob through work and he was a great person. Treasure all the beautiful memories you made over the years.
God bless.

Marianne, Cole, and Myles:

Craig and I often reflect on our visit with you all when we ate pumpkin pie, told stories, and laughed lots! We hoped there would be many more like it. The friendship felt immediate and familiar. To have spent only an evening with him and your family was enough to understand the wonderful husband and father you’ve lost. He left an impression on us that we won’t forget. We talk about him often when we make cocktails from the book he gifted us and we think of you all when we water the spider plant you gave us. We will toast his memory while sending you all much love.

We are so sorry . Robert was a truly fine person. Every time I ran into him, he had a big smile and a funny story. We didn’t see Robert often. He worked for one of our clients, and we would sometimes see him around the community. Robert was the kind of person who, after we ran into him, Jon and I would always comment on what a nice guy he was. That happened every time we saw him. Every single time. I’m sure there are many, many people who had the same experience. Jon and I send our deepest sympathies to your family.

Marianne and Family,
I just heard of Rob’s passing away, I am so sorry for your loss.

Bill Steele

Todd, Perry and family. I was saddened and shocked to hear of Roberts passing. He was one of my best childhood friends growing up on Fredericton Place and I have very fond memories of those times. Many stories could be told, all good and the majority are filled with laughter, sometimes uncontrollable laughter. He was just an all around great guy!

Thinking of you and the entire family during this difficult time..

Take care,
Philip

For Rob’s immediate and extended family; I never met Rob, but have admired his beautiful photos on Flickr for many years. If the eyes are the window to the soul, then one can simply look through his eyes at the award winning (Parks Canada photo featured here) and awe inspiring images he saw with those eyes. Dozens of great photos of a wife adored, sons lovingly embraced, and beautiful shots of your surroundings that he shared with all of us who weren’t privileged to personally witness, but who could enjoy through the lens of his camera. Each photo by such a skilled photographer is a love affair with the subject. Those photos will forever be your everlasting testament to his love of all of you.

Marianne & Family,
My love and prayers to you and your boys, extended family. I’m shocked and saddened to here of your young husband’s passing. Thinking of you in the coming days.

I am so shocked and sad to hear of Rob’s passing. Though it’s been many years since we have spoken I have many great memories from high school and early University….cracking up at funny movies, watching formula 1 racing, his family’s Great Dane that would walk behind the couch and affectionately chew on the back of his head. He was a kind, funny and positive person. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends, Godspeed Robert.

To my cousins Perry and Todd. My sincere condolences on the passing of Robert. Keep the memories close to your heart. Godspeed

We knew Robert, Marianne and their children through many happy family gatherings (as in-laws of in-laws, in our case) and always enjoyed his generosity, cheerful and mischievous banter, and his loving interaction (and friendly tussles) with his sons, most memorably the energetic Myles. It is so very sad to witness such a premature end of a fine, promising life. We will certainly remember for the rest of our lives the highlights and happy times, and know that the same memories will be a comfort to his grieving family in years to come.

Marianne, Cole, Miles & Baker family

I first met Robert when we coached our boys in basketball in elementary school. Just the sweetest man, whose patience and care radiated to all those around him. Truly a wonderful soul. I remember seeing him at races, running with Myles – a wonderfully devoted dad, enjoying any time he could with his kids, and his sweet Marianne always there to support and encourage as well. So very sorry for your tremendous loss Marianne. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. ❤️

Marianne

Honored to have worked with Rob for the last four years. Even more thankful that we became really good friends outside work. We thoroughly enjoyed running and cycling together along with my wife Lisa. He had many tales to tell on our trail rides. Proud that he ran the Tely 10 a few years back with his son Myles and our work team. He will be terribly missed. Sincere condolences to Marianne, Cole and Myles

Todd, Mary and Milt, Marianne and family, please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Robert. God bless you all.

Dear Maryanne, our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to you and your dear boys. While we only met Rob a couple of times, he appeared to be a lovely man. This is borne out by the many messages written here . We both know you to be a woman of faith and friendliness. I’ll not forget you coming to our door and introducing yourself to us, and telling me we were cousins. Of course I made the connection to my grandmother Virtue immediately. I was so happy to meet another member of our very large family. Charlie thoroughly enjoyed the time he served with you on our Church vestry. Maryanne. You have a large loving family to lean on. Hold unto the memories in your heart. Rob will keep on living in your boys. Know that God is with you. Jesus cried at the death of His friend. I believe He cries with you today. May He hold you in the palm of His hand. Love and blessings. Shirley and Charlie
