It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Robert S. (Rob) Crosbie, CM, LL.D, ICD.D, announce his passing on April 18, 2025, at the age of 67.
Rob was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend who left us far too soon. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife and life partner of over 50 years, Liz (née Torraville); son Andrew; siblings Alex (Bev), Tim (Sherrie), and Cynthia (John); sisters-in-law Kay (Jim) Butler and Susan (Charles) Kemp; brother-in-law Dave (Louise † 2024) Chafe; many nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of extended family, very special friends, and colleagues whose lives were all enriched by his presence. He is predeceased by his parents, Andrew C. Crosbie and Joan Parker (née Parsons), as well as many beloved furry friends.
Rob’s passion for people and community extended far beyond his home. It introduced him to people all over the world. He had a deep love for time spent on the river, snowmobiling in the mountains, golfing with friends and business colleagues, playing water polo internationally, and judging dog shows. As Chair of Crosbie, he carried forward a proud family legacy with integrity, compassion, and vision. He led with quiet strength and a deep sense of responsibility—not only to the company, but to the province he loved so dearly.
Rob’s impact was felt across Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond. His contributions to business and public life were recognized with some of the country’s highest honours. He was appointed to the Order of Canada (2018), received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Memorial University (2018), was inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Business Hall of Fame (2016), and received Ernst & Young’s Atlantic Canada Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2016), Memorial University’s J.D. Eaton Tribute Award (2014), and the Faculty of Business Administration Alumnus of the Year Award (2003).
Rob’s warmth, wisdom, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege to know him. He believed in doing what was right, building for the future, and showing up for people in meaningful ways. Whether in the boardroom or at the family dinner table, he led with love and a deep sense of purpose.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Health Sciences Centre and Kidney Care Centre for their care, compassion, and kindness. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the entire Crosbie Group of Companies for the outpouring of love and support. Crosbie is a family—and one Rob was proud to lead.
Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home on Freshwater Road on Tuesday, April 22, and Wednesday, April 23, from 2:00–4:00 pm and 6:00–8:00 pm.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 24, at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church at 11:00 am.

Hello Liz, Andrew and the Family,
I met Rob some 50 years ago through some mutual friends and X friends. I was happy to take his call and help when he or a family member needed some care.
This would always be followed by few packs hand delivered infamous “Crosbie Moose Sausages”. and of course much appreciated.
Althought Rob achieved greatness in Family,Life and Business his aproach to his chronic terminal illness is inspiring. Rob ruled his illnes not the illness ruling Rob. Even though Rob had a rich and extensive vocabulary like myself the word “complain” was missing. You never heard it. I am sure he was planning the next salmon fishing trip ,family gathering or west coast snow mobile trip. That was Rob. We should all thae a page from his Business plan on life.
Condolences
Wayne and Bev Gulliver and Family

His coach’s memory: Rob Crosbie international Masters Water Polo player, 6’5” and full of muscle!! He threw the ball so hard made the rest of us feel like we were just children . Rob the hole checker, who after each tournament was riddled with bruises which he wore with a smile of a job well done, relishing the camaraderie during each of the team dinners we all shared. Rob the true proud Newfie who gathered teammates on the rooftop in Colombia and share jokes from his iPad . Rob the sportsman taking time to trade souvenir T Shirts while wearing his club kit with pride. Yes, Rob will be missed but more importantly we as his teammates will cherish all our personal memories and feel honoured to have competed shoulder to shoulder with such a humble great guy. John Csikos.
So proud to have shared a wonderful friendship with Rob these last 20+ years.

Rob,
We talked less than two weeks ago. You were gathering data in support of a mutual friend for an industry recognition award. Rewind 45 years ago, we both were cutting our teeth in the oil and gas industry from separate offices on the 7th floor of Atlantic Place. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have worked and played in your orbit all these years. Your vision, steely resolve, pragmatism, optimism and integrity were your calling cards and the bedrock for our industry to rely upon. You will be missed but oh what a legacy we can all aspire to. “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments but what is woven into the lives of others” – Thucydides.
Sincere condolences to Liz, Andrew, Tim, Cynthia, Alex and the entire Crosbie Family.
Rob’s passing comes as a shock to many. He was so engaged in his community and was constantly giving back in countless ways. In fact all my conversations with Rob were with him as a Leader at The Nature Conservancy, as a Leader at the Canada Summer Games or as an advocate for NL industry.
He was a giver and his compassionate and caring leadership will be missed. With our deepest sympathy to Liz, and all the family.

I wish to offer my sincere condolences to Liz, Andrew, Tim, Cindy and Alex. In 1967, I had the pleasure of enjoying a summer job with NECCO and one day was asked by Rob’s parents if I could act as lifeguard when called upon, for Rob, Tim, Cindy and Alex . That was my first enjoyable encounter with Rob and subsequent to that time, I always enjoyed our engaging chance encounters . He was indeed the epitome of gentleman and a true leader and mentor for many our community. My condolences on such a profound loss and may his imprint have a lasting legacy on all who had the pleasure of knowing Rob.

To Rob’s family,
Like others, I had the distinct privilege of working closely with Rob while he was Chair of the Board at Marine Atlantic, particularly during the acquisition of the Atlantic Vision. His mantra, ‘under promise, but over deliver’ demonstrated his clear understanding of the Company’s obligation to better serve the public of our Province. Under his direction, we in senior management had solid guidance and support. He was a true leader and I learned much from him.
Thank you, Rob, for your friendship to me and your service to the Province in your many business endeavours. You will be missed

Sincerest Sympathies, Thoughts, and Prayers from all of our Families to you, Alex and Cynthia, all of your Families and Friends. Personally, I’ve often pondered and equated that to lose a sibling might equate to a feeling figuratively similar as to losing one of your own appendages.
