Obituary

It is with great sadness, the family of R. Helen Purcell wish to announce her passing at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on Monday, January 31st, 2022, age 96 years.

Predeceased by husband Thomas; sisters, Hilda and Katherine; brother Charles.

Leaving to mourn sister, Dawn Cheeseman; niece Michele (Greg); great niece, Jenna (Sean); great nephew, Jordan (Jordan); also other nieces in Ontario and U.S.A. Her special furry friends, Poppy, Ninja, and Puss.

Many thanks to 4 East staff at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, especially Chris, for their care and compassion.

Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, February 3rd. Due to COVID restrictions vax passes and masks are required.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 4th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel. Cremation to follow.

Interment to take place on Saturday, February 5th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory maybe made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

I was very disappointed to learn of Helen’s passing January 31, 2022. She was a truly a Wonderful friend to my Mom. In fact she was with me when Mom passed., A True friend to the end.. We send our delayed condolences. RIP Helen Gail & Jim Hager

To Helen’s family, so sorry to hear of Helen’s passing. I already miss her sense of humor which she managed to keep into her elderly years. She was such a special person. So easy to talk to and be around. I know I have a lot of special moments that I will remember her by ….I can just imagine how many great moments you all must have with having her in your lives for so long. I she will be missed dearly.

To the Purcell ,Torraville Family . Sorry to here of aunt Helen’s passing . She a wonderful lady. She has helped many people through her work and life . I stayed with her one summer for a week when I was a teenager. In S t.John’s.. She and Uncle Tom took me everywhere . Especially. To Dairy Queen for banana splits . She always sent our family Christmas and Easter presents .When My Dad (Charles Torraville ) passed away and after she retired to Bay Roberts I would take my mom Mary Ann Torraville to Bay Roberts to visit her . Tender Loving Warm Vibes And Heartfelt Condolences And Sympathy To Dawn and Michelle and families. It was certainly an humbling honour and privilege to care for Helen.
We on the 4th floor of St. Pat’s enjoyed our time with Helen and it was our great honour to care for her during her time with us.
Helen won all our hearts and made us all laugh, we loved her dearly.
From all the staff from all departments including dietary, housekeeping, recreation, and the beauty parlour Helen meant so much to us all.

Cherish the happy memories of a happy woman who lived a long happy wonderful life.
