Rosemary Leaman

Rosemary Leaman (née Vey), age 74, passed peacefully away on July 17, 2025, at Chancellor Park, surrounded by her loving husband of 50 years and her daughter.

Born in St. John’s on August 10, 1950, Rosemary was a warm and compassionate woman whose kindness touched everyone she met. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, dancing, and listening to music—especially The Beatles, who remained her favourite throughout her life. In her later years, she found joy in quiet reading, long walks with her dogs, lunch dates, and, most of all, spending time with her young grandchildren.

Rosemary worked in the insurance industry for many years before choosing to dedicate herself fully to being a stay-at-home mom—a role she cherished deeply. Her love of music never wavered, and those who knew her well could always count on hearing a Beatles song or two playing in the background.

She was known for her gentle nature, selflessness, and the way she always put others before herself.

Rosemary is survived by her beloved husband, George Leaman; her cherished daughters, Stephanie (Steve Hounsell) and Kelly Cook (Paul); and her adored grandchildren, Grayson, Kai, Lexi, Courtney, Clayton, and Riley.

She is lovingly remembered by her brother Eli Vey; sister Judy Sullivan (Terry); brothers-in-law Reg Tucker and Jim Leaman; and sister-in-law Mabel Leaman (Bobby). She also leaves behind a multitude of special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends whose lives she touched with kindness, humour, and grace.

She was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice and Lloyd Vey; her parents-in-law, Sarah and Herman Leaman; her sisters Jeanette Saunders, Shirley Wall, Joan Tucker, and Louise Parrell; her sisters-in-law Sandra Vey, Sybil Toth, and Millie Leaman; and her brothers-in-law Roy Saunders, Bill Wall, Gerry Parrell, and Steve Toth.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Chancellor Park for their compassion and care over the past few years.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation in Rosemary’s honour will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., With a reception to follow in the lower lounge.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. Flowers are also graciously accepted.
