Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sandra “Sandy” Corcoran-Ward, aged 57 years, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Sandy was loved by many, and will be remembered most for her wonderful sense of humour. She was able to fill a room with laughter, even on her worst days. She loved a good party with family and friends, but was most content curled up with a good book and her cat.

She is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Anna Corcoran, special aunts Jeanette & Kay, and her close cousin Hal.

Leaving behind with broken hearts are her daughters Amanda, Holly (Jeff) and Samantha(Wayne); her beloved grandchildren Lily, Leo and Bella; sister Lucille (Luke); brothers Randy (Maureen) and Tommy; special niece Jennifer and great nephew Caleb, as well as many other  nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; especially close friends Maryann, Patsy, Kathy, Trevor, Sally, and Fred the Cat.

A sincere thank you to Sandy’s cancer care team, including the staff of St . Clare’s – ER and 7 west, as well as HSC – 5NA, ER, and ICU. An extra special thank you to Lisa and the palliative care team for providing exceptional care, comfort and special moments in her final days.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home at 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, on Friday July 12, from 2pm-7pm. Service to be held at St. Joseph the Worker Cemetery in Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay on Sunday July 14, 11am, followed by refreshments at RCL branch 62.

Flowers graciously accepted, or donations may be made in Sandy’s memory to the palliative care unit at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre.

Your Life was a blessing,

Sincere condolences to all Sandra’s family and friends on your sad loss. She was a lovely person with a ready smile and laugh. She will be missed. 🙏🙏🙏

Thinking of you all as you lay for Mom to rest. She truly was a special lady! I laughed with her until my cheeks hurt. When we met at Lawrence College it was an instant connection – you couldn’t not be drawn to Sandy. Her sense of humour and her laugh were absolutely infectious. I’m very sad that we lost touch over the years and sadder still to hear her life cut so short by cancer. She was loved and she will be missed.

So sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear of your mother’s passing Sandy was a great person I worked with her at the avalon mall may she RIP xoxo

I met Sandy in trade school.
My life was pretty mundane in those days, she had a heart of gold, and seeing how I didn’t have many friends, being from out of town…she took me under her wing.

Needless to say , things changed…that year was the best year of my life.
She kept saying…come on girl, ya gotta live a little!
And that we did.
Thank you, Sandy…for showing me , even then…that life was about having a laugh.
In your hardest days , you still laughed.
I know you will laugh in heaven, and make all those around you laugh.
You will be the one to befriend, the angel who is alone up there, like you did me!
I will never forget you.

Lisa
