Shirley Frances Whalen

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Shirley Frances Whalen, age 78, on September 6, 2023 at the Carbonear Long Term Care Facility.  She was born on March 29, 1945.

Predeceased by her husband Robert Whalen.  Leaving to mourn two sons: Richard (Paula) and Jimmy (Deanna), and daughter Donna; 12 grandchildren: Kayla, Justin, Cameron, Rachel, Kaiden, Evan, Ricky, Stephanie, Timothy, Tiffany, Michael, and Zachery; great-grandchildren Conner, Casey, Everleigh, Ellie, Jax, and Monroe; brother Jim, sisters Bet, Mercedes, Mill, and Barb, and a large circle of many friends and extended family.

Shirley will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature, her humour, her love of live and generous heart.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Thank you to the staff at Carbonear Long Term Care Facility for enhancing her quality of life in her final years. 

Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday, September 10 from 2-9 p.m.  Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Monday, September 11 at 1 p.m. with interment to follow in the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Shirley’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society.
