Passed peacefully away at Saint Luke’s Home on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2021, Shirley June Dudley (nee Barbour), age 86.

Shirley Dudley was born in 1935 and was the only child of Ross and Mildred Barbour. She was married to her loving husband Kenneth Dudley for 56 years, before he passed in 2016.

Left with many happy memories are her two children, Bertha Tina Ivany (Calvin) and Roy Dudley (Margaret); and her four precious grandchildren, Emily and Brandon Ivany and Holly and Millie Dudley.

She lived her entire life in St. John’s, Newfoundland. As a young woman, she worked in retail and as a Sunday School teacher but spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. Shirley was a kind and generous woman, a tremendously caring wife, and a wonderful mother. Always a selfless person, she cared about nothing more than to hear of the happiness of others. Her gentle demeanor, her soft-spoken voice and her good humor will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to the compassionate staff at Saint Luke’s Home who took excellent care of mom over the last five years.

Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Friday, November 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, November 27th from 10 -11 a.m. Funeral service will be held from The Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, November 27th at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The funeral service will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend.

Flowers are gratefully accepted, or donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Bertha, Roy and family,
I am so incredibly sorry for the loss of your mother. Shirley was such a sweet and gentle soul. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and was so proud of her children. She and I would have many long chats where she would always light up the instant you asked about her family. I will certainly miss seeing her and out chats. Deepest condolences to you all at this difficult time.
