It is with deep sadness that the family of the late (Hum) Tai H. Jim announces her passing. Tai passed peacefully away at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, ON on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025 at the age of 98 years.

Born in Hoi Ping, China, she immigrated to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, in 1957 to join her husband, Hong Jim (who passed away in May 1998). Together, they raised three children and ran a business, Jim’s Snack Bar in Mount Pearl for over 30 years before relocating to Mississauga in 1995 to be closer to their family. Throughout her life, Mom dedicated herself to her family, prioritizing their needs with unconditional love and support. Her final days were spent with her children (their spouses) and grandsons at her bedside.

Mom was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother renowned for her kind-heartedness, selflessness, strength, and resilience. Despite facing numerous challenges in life, she always approached them with grace, dignity, and courage. Her many interests included cooking, baking (most notably her delicious apple pies), sewing, knitting, trout fishing, gardening, watching curling on TV, and playing card games, particularly Poker or Blackjack nights with us. She was also known for her warm and affectionate ‘big hugs’.

Leaving behind with loving memories are her daughter, Jennie (Brent), sons Harry (Sandy) and William (Madonna), and two grandsons, Christopher and Brandon. She also has her nephew, Gordon (Rebecca), and niece, Annie (Mike), along with numerous grand nieces and nephews plus close relatives and friends.

Special thanks to Dr. Gordon Wong and Ron Marcilla RPN and their team at Trillium Health Partners Renal Care Centre.

Public Visitation will take place from Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025 from 6:00-9:00PM.

Reverend Rebecca Pike-Winter will conduct the Funeral Service from The Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025 at 1:00PM. Interment to follow from Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations can be made to Trillium Health Partners Foundation (THP) – Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga. https://secure.trilliumgiving.ca/site/TR?fr_id=1090&pg=entry
