Maxine and Family: June and I are so very sorry to learn of Tom’s passing. I have so many pleasant memories of watching his skill on the soccer pitch and cheering him on from the sidelines. Getting to know him better later in both our lives made us realize what a fine gentleman he was. We are so very sorry for your loss, and extend our deepest condolences.
Maxine and family, i was so very saddened to hear of Tom’s passing. I was working at Buffett’s shop, my first job, when Tom called and asked me if I were interested in doing the combined Lab and x-ray course for the cottage hospital system. Not being old enough for nursing I accepted, however, after the Lab part I was asked to go to Springdale for 6 months. It was there I realized I still wanted to do nursing . So I thank him for allowing me to gain that certainity in my career path. Sincere condolences and may precious memories keep him ever near. Judy Pardy Carpenter Halifax

Ed and I were so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing.. Please know you have our heartfelt sympathy.
So many of our happy memories of living in Grand Bank include you and Tom and your extended family – your mom and dad, Geraldine and Rod, Max and Louise , Anne and Keith, and others. Dances at the Masonic, singalongs and soup afterwards (you guys could certainly sing), badminton, swim team, etc. The list is long but you and Tom were always there to help and organize. We cherish our time there! The fact that our first son was born at the Cottage Hospital and the kindness that Tom, and you and yours, extended to us new parents has not been forgotten. As many have reiterated, Tom was a true gentleman. May your memories console you!
To the Rose and Patten families, so sorry to hear of Tom s passing. He was a fine gentleman, a friend to all who knew him, our sincere condolences to all his family and friends. R.I.P. Tom.

My sincere condolences to the Rose family especially Maxine and Stephannie. I lived with Tom and Maxine from ’73-’74 in Grand Bank and was treated with great kindness and respect and so I have fond memories of that time. Tom was a very kind gentle man who loved his wife and daughter fiercely. I hope your memories help during this time of sorrow for a man who lived a long loving life.

Maxine and Stephanie,
We were saddened to learn of Tom’s passing. The world has lost a true Newfoundlander—welcoming, kind, charitable, and a can-do attitude.
My sister Isabelle and I have often spoken about Tom and Maxine’s welcome into their home when we found ourselves without one while teaching in Grand Bank. We were one of the family and all the Pattens and Roses treated us like that. Maxine’s excellent cooking combined with Tom’s joking nature made us feel right at home. Stephanie was an angel —so well behaved.
Lots of warm, wonderful memories. May your memories keep Tom’s presence alive and may you find comfort and peace in the days ahead.

It is difficult to explain the connection the Rose family had with the Coish family. From my earliest memory, Stephanie and her parents were present. Mr. and Mrs. Rose provided wonderful summers of falling into the brook, driving us, in the Bug, to the local swimming hole and hanging out in the largest hammock ever! Through every life event, the Rose family were present. There was Hockey Night in Canada gatherings on Saturday nights and there was the time, in the 1970’s, when the Rose family took care of the Coish kids when mom and dad went to the Holylands.
As an adult and specifically regarding Mr. Rose, his friendship to my father was outstanding. When mom died in 1993, Mr. Rose was there for dad. There were many coffees had, phone calls made, potatoes peeled and a welcoming arm extended when Daphne entered the picture. Mr. Rose was my father’s best friend. He was a kind gentleman who was there when anyone needed quiet, steady unwavering support. My father always said ‘everyone needs a Tom Rose’.
With deepest sympathy and beautiful memories,
