Valmhor Joseph Puglisevich

January 27, 1960 to August 18, 2024

Obituary

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of a beloved Son, Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather, Brother, Brother-in-law and Uncle – Val Puglisevich on August 18, 2024.  Pre-deceased by Father – Charles, Grandparents:  Rosina and Francis Puglisevich and Maria and Francis Grech; Parents-in-law – Hubert and Myrtle Mercer; brothers-in-law – Derek Mercer and Gordon Boland.

Leaving to mourn with loving precious memories:  wife of 35 years, Karen, daughter, Hayley Fagan (AJ) and “Pop’s treasure” granddaughter, Sophia; Mother: Margaret Puglisevich; Sisters: Terry Puglisevich (Carl) and Frances Boland; Sisters-in-law:  Ruth Hiscock (Harve) and Carol Mercer; Nieces & Nephews:  Amanda (Lee) Vella, Charles (Tate) Borg, Nicholas Boland, Julie (Ross) Brace, Courtney (Darren) Melindy, Matthew (Brittany) Mercer; Great-nephews and nieces:  Marley & Leia Vella, Cody Brace, Madi Melindy and Charles Stagg, Calla Mercer; Godson: Jonathan Conway, and extended family and friends.

Val was born in Gwardamangia, Malta on January 27, 1960 to Charles and Margaret Puglisevich. Seeking a better life, Charles and Margaret took their family and immigrated to Canada eventually settling in St. John’s, NL where Charles started the offshore crewing company – Puglisevich Oilfield Consultants Limited.  When Charles passed away in 2003, Val and his sisters took over the business and, along with Manager, Bob Barron, grew the company to the thriving business known today as Puglisevich Group of Companies.

Val met Karen (love of each other’s lives) through work at Crosbie Offshore, married, had Hayley and treasured each day together be it travelling (road trips a favorite!), gatherings with family and friends, at the cabin(s) and spending time with Sophia!

Over the years Val was an altar boy in his church, played in a band, played soccer, learned to fly a small plane, became a licensed mechanic, worked as a roughneck on the oil rigs, operated a small engine repair store and was a safety training instructor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and hanging out with best friend, Bill Conway, and his Glenwood cabin buddies – Derek Mercer, Randy Chafe and Canon Bert Cheeseman.  Many good times were recalled with endless stories of their adventures and vast amounts of food!  In later years, Val would find another happy place – “cabin” at Blaketown.  He was one of the “go to” guys if you needed anything fixed or done – just ask.  He would give and go beyond to find a solution to get the job done, including volunteering at his church – Val will be missed.

A special thanks to the Paramedics, family, friends, neighbours, and all who did everything they could to assist us in our time of need.  To Deacon, Rev. Ed Bonnell and Rev. Randy Lockyer for their prayers.  For the numerous phone calls, messages, emails, food, love and support throughout this difficult time – too many to be named but all greatly appreciated and remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Philip’s Anglican Church.

Visitation will be held 12-9 p.m. Friday, August 23rd and Saturday, August 24th at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. Frances, Terry, Mrs. Puglisevich and all of Val’s Family,
I can’t imagine how you must feel right now. I’m so sorry for your loss. Val was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. My sincere condolences go out to you and your family.

Dear Karen, Hayley, and all the extended family. I can only imagine how shattered you all feel. Karen, you have physically lost your other half, and you will never feel quite whole again. Haley, your Dad was a very nice man. The first time I saw Sophia she was with Val and Karen, and I thought she looked just like her Poppy. He had such a look of pride and joy on his face when I told him that. We will miss his presence in Church, looking back and seeing him operate the speaker system, or chatting with him in the foyer. Harvey, Ruth and family, condolances to you as well, you were all so close. It’s obvious by the comments that Val was a very well liked man. Rest assured he is at home with his Lord and Saviour, and one day, by God’s good grace, you will be together again. May Val rest in peace and rise in glory. Love and prayers to you all Shirley and Charlie.

We don’t know how we’ll all get through the next little while but, Madi says we will. Val has been there for us from the day we moved in across the street. No matter if it was a medical emergency or just needing a battery charger like last week, it was “call Val”. During the winter, when the town would plow us in you would hear him coming across the street with his snow blower. In the summer, he was tired telling me to use the mulcher on the old push mower and stop having to rake the grass. I hope Terry and Frances don’t mind but, I thought of him as my younger brother and will miss him as if he was. Dear Karen, Hayley, AJ, beautiful Sophia, Margaret, Terry, Frances and your families, we love you and will always be there for you. He was one of the best.
