Her gentle manner, wisdom, humor and indeed her kindness left its mark and certainly helped shape us all for our 40+ year nursing careers. So sad to hear of Verna’s passing. I met her when I taught David in Grade 5 at MacDonald Drive Elementary. David,
I am sorry to hear of the passing of your mother and send sincere sympathy to you, her sisters and all family members. I met your mother when I was teaching you at Macdonald Drive Elementary. What a beautiful lady she was and you were her pride and joy. She was a close friend of my co-worker Alison and because of that I got to know her well. It was always a joy to be in the presence of such a kind, caring person and I have never forgotten her although many years have passed since our last meeting. I know this is a heavy loss for you, but I am sure your mother would want you to carry on with courage. She has left a great legacy of love that will guide you. May God bless you, David and grant you peace.

I met Verna when I went in training in 1960 and I feel so blessed to have known her. She was so kind, considerate, supportive and caring to all who knew her. She saw that I was too quiet and with her caring nature instilled in me the confidence to speak up for myself and I eventually did just that. There were so many times that Verna would pull me aside just to talk and tell me I was doing a good job. She was one of a kind and it broke my heart when Glenda called me to say she had passed. My sincere condolences to David, Glenda and Lorraine and the rest of Verna’s family. She was my hero and will always have a special place in my heart. Rest in peace, sweetheart. 🙏🙏 ❤️❤️

Sending deepest condolences from my Mother, Marion Bussey.

It is with much sadness and lots of fond memories that l read of the passing of a knowledgeable, compassionate and loving nurse from my days at the Grace Hospital.
To her family , I send my condolences and prayers. Hugs and God Bless.

I have so many wonder full memories of Verna—my dear colleague and friend. They go back to my student days with her as a head nurse and then fast forward to her role as student health nurse at the Grace school of nursing.. She had an incredible ability to listen and discuss issues. She was a rock to me. After we retired we continued our friendship with hardly a week going by without long phone calls. We rehashed incidents and memories-good ones and not so good ones. but always ending with a good laugh. My condolence to David, Glenda Lorraine and families.

One of the best nursing instructors who taught with kindness and nursed with compassion. Very positive memories from our training days under her guidance.
Sincerest condolences to Mrs. Clouston’s family.

Sending my sincerest and heartfelt condolences on the loss of a wonderful woman, nurse, nursing instructor, colleague, and friend. I had the privilege of having Verna as one of our instructors looking after student health in the 1980’s and later as an exemplary colleague while teaching at the S.A. Grace General School of Nursing. Her support to and compassion for nursing students were unwavering. She made a lifetime of positive contributions to nursing education and was an amazing mentor to me in my early days of teaching. I have many beautiful memories of our “chats” and her outstanding wisdom and wit. Verna will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.
