William Kenneth Jenkins

February 19, 1957 to September 20, 2025

Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of William Kenneth Jenkins. Bill slipped away peacefully at the Miller Centre on Saturday, September 20th. His wife of thirty-six years, Elizabeth, by his side during his long illness.

Bill is predeceased by parents Kenneth and Doris Jenkins of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. His brother Peter and family are in Ontario. Bill and Liz’s sons live in Northern Ontario; William (Nangoons) and son Liam, and Matthew (Rebecca). Bill’s daughters Lindsay and Stefanie are long time residents of Alberta.

Bill lived a full life, much of it in St. John’s, where he was a longtime and well-respected group insurance consultant. His love of PEI kept calling him back though where he golfed with many close friends. Golf was one of his favorite pastimes and he was a longtime member of Bally Haly in St. John’s. He also enjoyed casting a line on the Gander River and in Labrador. But curling was his true passion. Bill was a World Junior Curling champion out of PEI and represented Newfoundland and Labrador at the Brier and the national Senior Men’s Curling championships. He shared his knowledge and experience as a skip and a coach to younger curlers. Bill was a proud member of the PEI Sports Hall of Fame and the Governor General’s Curling Club.

Those who knew Bill will remember his zest for life. He had a love and flair for cooking and being invited for dinner was always a treat. He also loved to travel, and he and Liz enjoyed many adventures.

The family extends sincere thanks for the exceptional medical care Bill received, in particular, a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Alysha Mehta and Dr. Angela Hyde. As per Bill’s wishes there will not be a wake or funeral, but a “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date. Flowers are kindly declined but donations in Bill’s memory may be made to The School Lunch Program.

A celebration of life will be taking place at the St. John’s Curling Club on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 6 – 9 pm.

Sad news that another one of our Strathcona Cup ‘brothers’ has passed away. Bill was a worthy captain for the 2018 Scotland Northern Tour, a great curler, and an all round gentleman. It was a real pleasure to tour with Bill leading the way. Condolences to the extended Jenkins family.

His curling was exceptional and i will always remember his wins at the Canadian and world championships as a tremendous achievement for PEI. HIs golf wasn’t as good as his curling but he sure was passionate about hitting that ball!!!
Just a wonderful man who leaves me with many fond memories.
May we all remember his beautiful life and smile every time we think of him.

To the Jenkins Family – Our condolences for your loss.

One of our best memories from Newfoundland was the time we had dinner with you, Bill and Chris. Ain and Bill bonded over cigars and Amarone, while Bill and I found common ground over insurance issues and Amarone. It is a rare event to feel so at ease so quickly when meeting someone for the first time. I guess that was one of Bill’s (and your) strengths. Our deepest condolences.

Dear Liz. Our deepest condolences. I’ve known Bill for more than 40 years. First as a group insurance consultant when he was with Morneau. Over the years he became a dear friend through curling, golf, and poker with many mutual friends. He was always positive and loved a good time that usually involved a glass of wine or rum and cooking great food. May he rest in peace. Know that he loved you and your kids.

Dear Liz
Marian and I were saddened to read of Bill’s passing.

Bill was a good friend and gracious host. His lobster thermidor knew no equal. More than that Billy was kind and generous to everyone he encountered. His outlook on life was that his glass was always half full never half empty. We have lost a good man.

Our deepest condolences to you and your family.

I was saddened to learn of Bill’s passing and offer my sincere condolences to Liz and family.
Bill was a good friend from the first grade through the university years and we curled together at the Schoolboy and Junior level. There was never a dull moment with Bill, and I have lots of good memories of playing road hockey, watching sports, going on curling trips and experiencing some great accomplishments together.
Rest in Peace, Bill

On behalf of the PEI Sports Hall of Fame, we send sincere condolences to all of Bill’s family, friends, teammates and acquaintances.

We know he wore the distinction of being a Hall of Famer proudly, and he brought great honour to Prince Edward Island.

Rest In Peace, Bill

Liz, our condolences to you, William and Matthew. We were reminiscing last evening about all the good times we had with you and Bill and couldn’t help but smile. Bill certainly loved a good time. I think our first dinner that Bill hosted was in the winter at Humber Valley on those family ski trips. We learned then what a great chef he was. There were many great dinners to follow with the Scout leaders at your house after our annual Knotty Niblick golf day. The last time I spoke to Bill was in July this year and the conversation turned to salmon fishing. He had already done trips to the Eagle and Gander rivers and had two more trips planned for August. I hope he got to go on those last trips. He certainly lived life to the fullest.
Dave and Bernice

The Jenkins family : My deepest condolences for your loss .. May the memories you made and shared together over the years bring you comfort now and in the days ahead .

Pam Cindy and Natalie (Miller)

I met Bill ad Captain of our tour in the 2018 Strathcona Cup. I was delighted when he invited me to spare on his team on a couple of occasions, but my fondest memory is the evening I was included in a home hosting dinner at Billy Howat’s (past Scottish champion) along with Bill and Toby McDonald. It was a thrill to listen to the 3 of them recount all their World curling experiences. A wonderful man I am honoured to have known ever so briefly. Rest in peace Bill.

I have very fond memories curling with Bill at the ST. John’s Curling Club (92 to 95) representing the province at 1995 Brier. He was a great guy and a fierce competitor – a man of many talents. Sports seemed to come easy for Bill and he was impressive to say the least. Rest in peace Bill. You’ll always be remembered.

Sorry for your loss.
Bill was a great man. I always enjoyed our conversations.

Liz & Family,
Bill was quite a guy, a true gentleman, and a great ambassador for curling. As a fellow member of the Governor General’s Curling Club we always looked forward to seeing Bill and Liz at our annual safari event.
Bill was also a great supporter of the Strathcona Cup event and he will be missed by fellow curlers both in Canada and Scotland.

To the Jenkins Family
My deepest condolences and the passing of Bill .
He was a fine gentlemen to deal with for many years.
Rest in peace.
Doug Symonds

To the Jenkins Family,
It was a big deal when Bill and his team won in 1977. It inspired so many young teams across the country to represent Canada. I considered myself lucky to play Mixed with his brother Peter. God Bless your family during this sorrowful time.
Fondly,
Marilyn

Condolences to Liz and Family.

I first met Bill in grade 7 at Queen Charlotte Junior High School (PEI) as we both were in the band /music program. In grade 10 I joined Bill, John and Sandy to form our Schoolboy/junior curling team. We had a lot of success but more importantly we shared many many great times together..

Bill was more outgoing than the rest of us and he got us into many experiences we would not have otherwise had. He was a natural leader and the skip role suited him well.

His performance in the world junior final against Sweden remains one of the best ever by a Canadian Skip..

Farewell

Alan and Margaret Mayhew

Liz and family,

Liz,
I was so sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Bill was such a sociable and kind-hearted man. I have fond memories of the years we played Mixed Provincials—he was always kind and generous, brought great energy, and had a wonderful sense of humour. His love for curling and golf was matched only by his talent in the kitchen and his gift for hosting unforgettable dinner parties. He will be deeply missed at Bally Haly and within the curling community.

Wishing you comfort and peace in the days ahead. Please know you’re in my thoughts.

Warmly,
Sas and Danny

Liz

Deepest condolences to Liz and family…2025 has been a difficult one in terms of curling friends who have passed…so many many memories of Bill, both on and off the ice, like a highlight real these past few nights have kept me awake remembering the great times.

As many have already said, Bill lived a full life in his 68 years and touched so many-he will be missed but never forgotten….
RIP Bill
Snapper!

Dear Liz and family. Please accept my heart felt condolences on Bill’s passing. I first met Bill on the 2018 Strathcona tour to Scotland and we immediately bonded over our love for curling but also our love for PEI. I teased him that he was my first curling hero when I saw his World Junior Curling Championship banner hanging in the Charlottetown Curling Club as an 8 year old new curler. They often say don’t meet your hero’s but Bill was an exception to that as he far exceeded expectations and from the moment I met him it’s as if I knew him my whole life. I will always be thankful that I had the fortune to know Bill and consider him a friend.
Sincerely,
Jeremy MacDonald

Liz , so very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing, our deepest condolences to you and the family.

I first met Bill as part of the 2018 Strathcona Cup team. Both he and Toby were quite a pair but made my experience in Scotland considerably richer but also much more tiring. Billy certainly set the tone on how to have a good time. I can still hear him snickering over a good joke and a glass of whiskey.
As a member of the Governor General’s Curling Club, I welcomed the opportunities to meet up with Billy (and Toby). There was something very special about both these men . They always made you feel somewhat special with a simple nod, a wink of their eye and a smile. While I did not know him for many years, I feel blessed that he passed my way.
On behalf of my family, please accept our sincerest condolences. Billy was one of a kind and will be greatly missed but I guarantee you, never forgotten.

Sincere condolences to the family, loved ones and friends. I was on the organizing committee in Quebec City in 1977. During that week I had the opportunity to talk and discuss with Bill, a very nice, generous and talented athlete who offered an outstanding performance to earn the gold. These are precious memories that always remained on my mind Sincerely,
Our thoughts are with you

Our little world pppwas a better place with Billy. Billy passed on the weekend as the Terry Fox Runs we’re taking place all across Canada to raise funds for Cancer research. Our Island run over the Confederation Bridge was very successful with over 10,000 participants raising 880,000 dollars to date.

His frequent visits to the Island included golfing with the Thursday/Friday groups, then having a beer and catching up with his golfing buddies. Visits also included bringing us all together for lobster gatherings, and occasional liquid refreshments. We would talk about the good old days at the Charlottetown Curling Club and the many people we knew years ago. We had lots of laughs.

Billy was a family man and very proud of the love of his life Liz. He lived life to the fullest right to the end travelling with Liz to visit his sons in Sault Sainte Marie

We pray for Billy, Liz , William, Matthew, Lindsay, Stefanie and his many friends.. We will truly miss you Billy. God Bless.

Sincere condolences to Liz and all those who loved Bill. He was a generous man and it was great to be around him. Will miss him.

Sad to hear of Bill’ s death. We had two beautiful daughters together.
Sheila

On behalf of the Governor General’s Curling Club, we extend our sincere condolences to Elizabeth and to Bill’s family. Bill will be fondly remembered for his dedication to curling and the friendships he built throughout his life, from the World Junior Championship to the 2018 Strathcona Cup, and in between a proud participant in the Brier and in the Senior Men’s Curling Championship. Bill was inducted into the Governor General’s Curling Club in 2017 and was proud to wear his red jacket.

My sincere condolences to Liz, and, Bill’s children. He was a good buddy for many years. A lot of great memories of fishing, golf and curling. He enjoyed life and was fortunate to have Liz understand and “take care of him” for 36 years..
We will miss you Bill. Your memory will live on.

To Bills family and friends; played many rounds of golf with Bill; fully enjoyed each and every round. We loved to talk about fishing and golf. A true gentleman in every respect. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family at this difficult time. Donny Colbert

To Elizabeth, Family and Friends,
Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of Bill. We knew Bill from Bally Haly, both through golf and curling. Dave had the privilege to curl with Bill. Through Bill’s guidance and cheerful demeanour, it was always with many laughs! Bill’s presence was truly felt, with his big smile, opened arms or firm hand shake. He will be missed.
May the heaviness of your heart be lightened with the many memories you hold.
Sincerely, Dave and Gale

Sending sincere condolences to Bill’s family. A fine gentleman. RIP

Billy was my parents best friend. I will always remember how good he was to all the Fortier’s . Rip Billy.

Our condolences to Liz and family on Bill’s passing.
I curled with Bill in the Schoolboy/Junior Men’s years. We had our share of success and had many experiences in our travels within the Maritimes and beyond. Bill’s enthusiasm and skill for the game suited his role as skip. I have many great memories of years of curling with Bill to be thankful for.

I met Bill on the Strathcona Cup tour to Scotland in 2018. He was a great team captain. It didn’t take long to see that he was an excellent person, had a terrific sense of humour and a huge love of life. He and his good buddy Toby were quite the pair! I am saddened that he is gone but so very honoured that I got to know him.
