It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Quinn, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend, who unexpectedly passed away at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, on July 1, 2026, at the age of 76.
Bill is predeceased by his beloved wife, Pansy; his parents, Edward and Alice (Crotty) Quinn; his brother-in-law, Bob Smart; and his nephew, Colin Smart.
Leaving to mourn is his son, Geoffrey; his cherished grandchildren, Autumn and Justice; his great-grandchildren, Sterling and Amethyst; his sisters and brothers, Bernadette, Ed (Sarah), Judy (Bruce), and Paul (Tina); his nephew, Noel (Lisa); many other nieces, nephews, and dear friends and fishing buddies, with whom he shared countless memorable days along Newfoundland’s salmon rivers and quiet wooded streams.
Bill attended St. Bonaventure’s College in St. John’s before continuing his education at Memorial University of Newfoundland, the College of Trades & Technology, and later Humber College in Ontario. He received various scholarships and awards in recognition of his athletic achievements and his devotion to the sport of hockey. Despite all these accomplishments, he remained humble and never sought recognition.
One of our brother’s greatest gifts was his ability to connect with people. He genuinely enjoyed conversation and could strike up a meaningful discussion with just about anyone. Whether talking about family, fishing, hockey, current events, or everyday life, he made people feel welcome and appreciated. He loved spending time walking through the woods, stopping at a pond or river to cast a line, and later proudly share his stories of the fish he caught, and the ones that got away.
Bill will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him. His kindness, humility, gentle spirit, unwavering love for his family, and warm, friendly nature will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
A funeral service celebrating Bill’s life will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carnell’s Funeral Home Chapel. The service will also be available via live stream for those unable to attend in person.

So sorry to hear of Bill passing got to know Bill way back in high school when he played for Br Rice and skating at Memorial Stadium . Over the years every time we crossed path we alway made time for a chat and a laugh. Billy was one of a kind good man , cherish his memories .RIP old friend .

My condolences to Bill and he’s family and he’s large group of friends especially he’s fishing. Buddies. We had many good times on the river with Bill over the years. He taught me a lot about fly fishing, especially salmon our times together on the river with the boys meant a lot to me. You will never be forgotten my friend. I will miss you dearly.

So now I have no one.

To Pansy’s family – I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I know Bill was a treasured member of your family – from the Friday night get togethers, shed parties, fishing with the nephews, vacationing down south, trips to Green Bay and so much more – he loved it all! You continued to care for Bill and help in any way you could after Pansy passed as true family does. May all of your precious memories help with your loss.
