The family of the late William R (Raymond) Young are saddened to share the news of his passing, known as Bill to his friends and family, Bill grew up on Thorburn road, his friends were chosen and selected and you know who you are. His best friend Kevin Preston was tragically killed 10 plus years ago and this trauma and loss carried a tremendous void.
During the last few years bill struggled with Liver disease and the trauma of years and years at sea (40 plus). The last two years were incredibly difficult for Bill and his family as he struggled to navigate his health; this became more intense with many hospital visits and medications. Since March those health issues severely deteriorated causing his health to again drop to a level that was hard to recover from and in the last week he and his family endured a tremendously painful exit from the living, it was completely unbearable, but life and death hold no boundaries – but now his pain is no more.
Bill is predeceased by his Parents William and Louise Young and his father -in- law William Cuff, and Howard Russell, and is survived by his wife Wanda (Cuff ) of Bonavista, his two children William jr. and Cassandra (Jenelle), one grandchild Wilder James; his brothers David (Rosalind), Gary (Barb), Rick (Carolyn); one brother-in-law Dean Cuff (Janice); step-brothers Wayne (Sandra), Derek (Norma); step-sister Madonna (Moe), Corina (Rocky); their children, grandchildren and his Mother in Law Marina Cuff (Bonavista).
Bill spent his life on the sea starting out at the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club he mastered the vessels at a young age which lead to career on the high seas. Early years were spent in Terra Nova Park working the on the Kipawo then onto life on fishing and tug boats, then to a career with the Canadian Coast guard – he travelled the world, but he truly loved Terra Nova and places like Park harbor, and Menchion’s cove – he loved the solitude.
He said many times he had seem more in his short life than most would do twice his age. The sea brought joy but also the toll of being away from family and friends – he missed many events. The last years he loved his Harley Davidson and his time on the Eastport Peninsula – enjoying the true joys of nature camping and the serenity of the quiet and the ocean and of course his furry friends (Sheena, Hershey, Sky and Meeka)
There will be no funeral service but a celebration of life to be held at a time to be announced by the Young Family.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home located at 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday June 11th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm

Saltwater Serenade
In the embrace of saltwater kisses, I sail, Whispering winds weave tales through my veil. Starry nights bear witness to dreams that arise, Each wave a secret, each breath a tale. The ocean’s heart speaks in a lullaby’s tune, Guiding lost souls beneath the broad, silvered pale. With every gust, freedom dances on my brow, As I chart the course of a destiny frail. Oh, the horizon beckons with promises bright, Yet I linger here, where the salty winds wail. In the depths of blue, I find solace and storm, Forever a sailor, forever a gale.

Well my friend Bill, You have crossed over where there is no pain & suffering; your reunited with your parents, family & friends & days no longer have any meaning. It was a true pleasure to be your friend & to have made so many great memories. You were always good to people and there to help anytime without hesitation. Anyone who was lucky to have known you know the big heart you had & what it meant to have you as a friend. I have one more favor to ask & that’s to save me a berth on your boat for when I cross over.

Dear Wanda,
My heart breaks for you at the news that Bill passed this afternoon. I am so sorry — for the suddenness of this loss, for the weight of the silence he leaves, for every ache you feel right now.
In the midst of this sorrow I want to bring you the sure and living hope of the Gospel: because Jesus rose from the dead, death does not have the final word. Jesus himself said, “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25) — and He promised that those who belong to Him will be raised and will never be separated from His love. Grief is real and heavy, and yet it is held within the greater reality of God’s mercy and power. The same Savior who wept with Mary and Martha understands your tears and draws near to you now with comfort and strength.
I pray that the Holy Spirit will flood your heart with peace that goes beyond understanding, that memories of Bill will become beacons of God’s goodness, and that you will sense the living presence of Christ sustaining you hour by hour. May you feel the arms of your heavenly Father gathering you, declaring that nothing — not even death — can separate you from His love (Romans 8:38–39). And may you rest in the promise that God will wipe away every tear and bring eternal joy to those who trust in Him (Revelation 21:4).
I am here for you. I will pray without ceasing for you and for Bill, and I will stand with you in whatever you need — to sit in silence, to share stories of Bill, to help with arrangements, or to bring you a meal. Please tell me how I can support you through the days ahead.
Wanda, you are not alone. The Lord who conquered death holds Bill in His mercy and holds you in His hands.
With deep love and prayer,
My deepest condolences to Wanda and family.
Rest in Peace Bill. Our prayers are with you.
Wanda, our condolences to you and your family. Wishing you comfort and peace in the days ahead.
