Dear Carol, Michael , Christopher and Family, I am so saddened to hear the news of Winston’s passing. Winston was such a unique, talented and special person . I have very warm and joyful memories of our visits together in Portugal Cove. Yes, he loved telling stories and and had such a wonderful sense of humour while doing it. While his accomplishments were many I am particularly grateful for his publication “The Ruby Church” and his passionate commitment to its conservation and restoration over the years. It represents his courage in protecting the heritage of The Goulds and the Ruby Family. Rest in peace Winston , we will miss you.
Sylvia, in Montreal.

May I express my condolences to the whole Ruby family at this most difficult time. I had the pleasure of working with Winston in the early days of my career. Winston was always a wealth of knowledge and an abundance of wit and dry humour. I will always keep my memories of him dear to my heart. RIP to a kind and wonderful man who left the world a little kinder than the way he found it. An intellectual, but a common man, has departed now and a new brighter light has entered the heavens of the universe. Blessings to his family and may we all honour a soul who has touched many who crossed his path during his tenure on Earth. Let his life stories and Newfoundland folklore flourish for years to come.

Please accept my condolences at this very difficult time. Just over 50 years ago, Mr. Ruby was my sixth grade teacher at Morris Academy. I remember he bought a sports car that year (an AMC Javelin) and we all thought he and the car very cool. I recall that he was a great teacher, very engaged, creative, and memorable. I’m sorry for your loss

Carol and family:
Sorry to hear about Winston’s passing. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Chris, so sorry for your loss , condolences to you and your family

My deepest sympathies to the Ruby Family.
My memory goes back to the days when Winston engaged me to help him sell some of his woodwork.
I lived on Park Ave Mt Pearl which was a busy street and a great place to sell items to the passers-by!

I first met Winston when I ran Tandy Leather Store on water street. He would come in and purchase LeatherCraft items for a craft class he ran at the Waterford hospital for some of the patients.

He loved his woodwork and loved to travel.
I haven’t had a lot of contact with Winston over the years but remember him as a soft-spoken gentle soul.

Rest in peace and God Bless!

Gil Smith

Ruby family: My sincere condolences on the passing of Mr. Ruby. He was my Grade Six teacher at Morris Academy (1968-69). What an outstanding & engaging teacher he was! He initiated & supervised our Grade Six newspaper (I still have my copies). He was a creative & talented teacher: we made Ivory Soap carvings, created puppets & then put on a ‘show’. At Christmas time he played his accordion and mouth organ. Ms. Myers chaperoned on Field Trips and she and Mr. Ruby married that year. I have wonderful memories. I hope your own memories will bring you comfort during this difficult time. God Bless.

Sorry for your loss. Winston was a great man, full of knowledge and love for his family.

Our sincere condolences to Carol Ann and family on Winston’s passing. Winston was a “force” of nature. He started and self published his own popular community centered magazine, created and crafted much wanted patio and other furniture. He led the charge on the recognition of the “RUBY” Church in the Goulds and so much more! Winston was a gentleman. Hard working, and honest. He was a friend and he will be missed.
