It is with profound sadness that the family of Charles (Charlie) Squires announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 82.

He spent lots of time in good health tending to his vegetable garden which he was very proud of. Charlie loved the outdoors.

A special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Rourke and Dr. Holmes at the Health Science Cancer Centre, Community Health Nurse, Erin Nugent and Dr. Doulton and the entire staff at the Palliative Care Unit. Thanks, as well, to Charlie’s sister Dot for being by Faith’s side while at Palliative Care. Your empathy and caring of Charlie during his time was greatly appreciated.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Friday, January 27 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

Dear Faith, Karl, Kirk, and family,
Please accept our deepest condolences on this terrible loss, and know that we are sending you warm thoughts and best wishes from afar. I cannot remember not knowing Charlie and your family, and the more life passed, for all of us, the closer and dearer he and Faith became, especially for our own mom, Clara (or ‘Mrs Oliver’, as they continued, lovingly, to call her, even after 55 years or so!). Beyond friendship, beyond neighbourliness, beyond kindness, our gratitude and admiration for Charlie and Faith could not be greater, and so our sadness at his loss could not be deeper. Thank you for sharing him with us all these years. At my last drop in, this past September, the conversation included fishing and berry picking, as always! Until we meet again, much love to you all.

Faith and family,
Shocked to hear of Charlie’s passing. Condolences to you and your family at this sad time. God bless.
