My heart was saddened when I heard that Bernice “Mrs. Butler” had passed away. For six years I stayed with Bernice (and Bill) while I was working in St. John’s. First at Cumberland Crescent and then at Thorburn Road after we all moved there together. And man was I looked after. I didn’t go hungry by no means, and enjoyed my stay there to the fullest. It was definitely “a home away from home.” She always had cookies and sweets on hand and made the best snowballs. So good, we use her recipe to make them every Christmas to this day.

To Bernice’s family, friends and all who knew this wonderful lady. My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies.

It is with extreme sadness and a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my Great Aunt Bernice. Not only was she my Great Aunt because she was my Grandfather’s Sister, but also because she was truly GREAT.

I will always look back fondly at the fun times we shared with her. As a little girl I was witness to the friendship and camaraderie of Aunt Bernice, My Granny (Joan Tucker), Aunt Fern, Aunt Evelyn and Aunt Lil’s gatherings. Whether it was for a cup of tea, sewing or knitting sessions or even just a gab, I always felt privileged to be a part of their group.

My Mom (Mandy Tucker) and I were also lucky enough to live just up the road from her on Cumberland Crescent for many years of my childhood which provided me with the added pleasure of her baby sitting me from time to time, as well as visits and special treats for my best friend Debbie French and myself. Almost every time I would visit, she would make me home made french fries, and set me up on the sofa with her dream interpretation book on my lap (it seemed so big and heavy over the years, yet in later years I realized it was of average size, it was I in fact that was small).

Aunt Bernice treated me so special, she was so complimentary, she continually made me laugh out loud. She always made me feel good about myself. I will forever remember her promising me as a flat chested teenager that one day I would grow big boobs like hers. When I was in my early twenties, I recall asking her why it hadn’t happened yet, to which she replied, “Sadly Susie, I think that ship has sailed”.

Aunt Bernice will always be known as the life of the party, she had the best sense of humour and more energy in her 80’s then I’ve ever had at half her age. She will always remain an inspiration to me as a woman that had the courage to start her life over again later in life, the ability to make any situation fun and like I said earlier, to make others feel great about themselves. My Great Aunt Bernice was truly Great in every way. She will forever be missed.

To the Butler/Tucker families;

We were so very sad to hear of Bernice’s passing. Mom always described Bernice as one of her best friends as a child and always had so much fun whenever she was in her company throughout the years. Over the years, I’ve heard many stories of their adventures as children. She was a sweet, fun loving lady and will be missed.

My deepest condolences to my dear friends, the Delaney family on the loss of your mother and grandmother. May Bernice rest in peace.

To Crystal, John and all of Aunt Bernice’s family. We will all miss Aunt Bernice. She was always so much fun to be around and made each of us feel so special. She made the best tea biscuits ever and often made special cookies for Allie and Gabe, whom she loved dearly..We had so many wonderful times together and will cherish those memories forever. Sincere condolences to you all. God Bless Aunt Bernice. May she Rest In Peace. Doug, Judy & Family.

Sincerest condolences to Adrian and Family. Bernice was larger than life. I will always remember stories of Dad telling us “there was no better dancer than Bernice and she wouldn’t get off the dance floor for the night!” She was always nothing but kind to me and was someone I will always remember as having the biggest heart. Rest In Peace Bernice.

Sincere sympathy to all the family. Thinking of you at this sad time.

Crystal,, sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom, a very beautiful lady, whom I always cherished a conversation with, back to my childhood., when her and Mom would stop and talk in Church, at the garden party, etc. She had a beautiful smile, always kind words, one of the nicest people I’ve ever known. Condolences also to your family. May she rest peacefully. God Bless.

Sincere condolences. We have many loving years of memories and will cherish them all. Rest easy Aunt Bernice
