Obituary

Passed peacefully away at Pleasant View Towers on Sunday, March 14, 2021, after long battle with dementia, Ronald Tizzard, age 76.

Predeceased by parents Wesley and Anne Tizzard, sister Florence, brothers Gord, Don (Marg), Doug (Irene), and Jack.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of almost 50 years, Joan (Dowden), daughter Heather and son-in-law Steve Ring (St. John’s), son Neil and daughter-in-law Lisa (Ottawa), and beloved grandchildren, Patrick Ring and Nathan and Lauren Tizzard. Also leaving brother Winston and wife Patricia (Alberta), sister-in-law Marie Tizzard Ontario), sisters-in law, Hazel Baldwin (Max), Paula Foster (Rick Fisher), Gloria Dowden (Ontario), special friends Kevin Rumsey, Bill Martin, and Gerry Duggan, constant companion, Melo, and wide circle of family and friends.

We are very grateful for the care he received from the staff of Pleasant View Towers 1 South East, who treated Ron like a member of their own family. Their care and compassion went above and beyond the call of duty and was a great comfort to us, especially in this last week.

Ron enjoyed a long career in the healthcare sector as a social worker and counsellor and spent his time volunteering with a number of different committees. He loved spending time hiking in the outdoors, but most of all, his favourite pastime was watching TV with a cat in his lap.

Cremation has taken place. Due to public health restrictions, a funeral service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the SPCA or the Gathering Place. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.carnells.com.

Offering my sincere sympathy to Ron’s family and friends. I was a classmate of Ron’s at All Hallows College Dublin during his years there. He was a delightful human being, always so upbeat, terrific sense of humor, kind and generous in every way. I remember so very well that during our first summer vacation from All Hallows Ron and our other classmate from Newfoundland Gerald Whitty toured Ireland by bicycle. They had innumerable stories from that trip about the interesting Irish folks they met along the way. May his noble soul now rest in peace!

Joan, Heather, Neil and Wince, Marg and I are thinking of you as you mourn the passing of your Ron., the Ron with whom my brothers and I grew up.. Ron was a genuinely good person who left only good impressions on those with whom he worked and relaxed. He was a member of a small group of us who would meet for the First Race on the Pond each Regatta Day. My last time with Ron was sitting around a Card Table about a month ago at the Head of the Pond having a coffee with him and my brothers Kevin and Gerard …. in the snow and freezing cold.. The Pond Walkers were rather amused.

My deepest sympathies go out to Ron’s families. I had the privilege to meet Ron when we were altar boys together at the Basilica. In the mid to late 50’s Ron was among the first group from St. Pats that came over from across the street to join us. Up to that time it was the domain of St. Bon’s. Thank God someone had the the sense to make that change. I will always treasure friendships formed from those days, Ron in particular was a warm , gentle and kind soul who lived a life of generous service to people whose lives were broken. I know first hand how he reached out to people whose lives were in tatters. May God’s eternal peace envelope Ron now. “Well done good and faithful servant “

Kevin

Joan, Neil and Heather
It seemed whenever I was in Uncle Ron’s company I’d come away with tear-streaked cheeks from laughing at the stories or at who was telling them…one led into another. The stories from that family were so funny and sometimes unbelievable…perhaps an extra bit added each time they were told.
Beyond our family Uncle Ron touched and helped so many families through his long career. He will be missed by many.
I wish you peace and Love ❤️
Lesley Tizzard

My deepest condolences to Neil, Heather, Joan and family on the passing of Ron.
My family and I are so saddened to hear that he has passed.

I was lucky enough to spend a significant amount of time at the Tizzard household growing up.
Whether it was a game of chess, having to listen why Doctor Zhivago was the greatest movie of all time, or why he felt Meisha and/or Blackie, the family pet cats deserved all the admiration, hanging with Ron and Neil meant something extra special to me.

Ron was a brilliant mind, extraordinary writer, and just a really good guy to be around.
I’m so blessed to have known him and his family. I hope he rests in peace and gets a great reclining chair to enjoy.
