Obituary
Passed peacefully away at the age of 95, surrounded by her loving family on April 29, 2021 Ethel Sullivan of Pouch Cove. Ethel was born on June 12, 1925 to John Dawe and Alice Dawe (Morgan) at Port de Grave. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald Sullivan who she married on Dec. 27, 1949 in Pouch Cove, her daughter Dorothy, and son Wilfred. She was also predeceased by her brothers Claude Dawe, Samuel Dawe, and Wilfred Dawe, and her sisters Gladys Dawe, Molly Dawe, and Emily Scott. She will be greatly missed by her loving children Eugene Sullivan (Beverley), Claude Sullivan (Dorothy), and Ida Engram (Rick); eight grandchildren Pamela Sullivan, Michelle Mills (Shawn), Ashley Sullivan, Jaclyn Sullivan, Sarah Locke (David), Katie Sullivan (Richard), Adam Engram (Emily), and Megan Engram (Kyle); eight great-grandchildren Ryan (Sarah), Luke, Cole, Devan (Heidie), Mathew (Heidi), Ava, Emily, and Ella; and a large circle of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Ethel was the matriarch of our family who came to Pouch Cove as a teacher and spent most of her working life operating Sullivan’s Store. She was affectionately known as Mrs. Ethel and could always be counted on for her hospitality and sense of humour. A teacher to the end, she spent some of her last hours on the palliative care ward teaching the nursing staff how to play auction and having a laugh.
Special thanks to the dedicated doctors and nurses of the Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit, Nurse Practitioner Trena Snook, family physician Dr. Scott, and her care giver Amanda Noseworthy who provided loving care for her “Buttercup”.
Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Sunday, May 2nd from 10-2, and 4-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held from All Saints Anglican Church, Pouch Cove on Monday, May 3rd at 2 p.m. Cremation and interment to follow. Due to Covid-19 regulations funeral attendance is limited, however public is welcome to attend by calling or emailing coordinator Beverly Ryan 697-5956 or beaver9327@gmail.com. The funeral service will be livestreamed from All Saints Anglican Church for those unable to attend at www.streamingservices.ca. Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations in her memory may be made to All Saints Anglican Church, Pouch Cove or to a charity of your choice.
