It is with great sadness that the family of Ray Lewis Hodder announce his passing in his 88th year at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre on November 11, 2019. Predeceased by his parents Allan and Stella; brother Carl and grandson Matthew. Beloved husband and best friend to Verenia for more than 62 years of marriage. Ray leaves a legacy of love in his children Sheila (Jerry Masters), Glenn (Joy), David (Honna) and Carl (Karen). He will be forever remembered with love by his 8 grandchildren: Ian, Heather, Jennifer, Christopher, David, Kristina, Bradley and Jeffrey and 7 great-grandchildren. Ray was born in Grates Cove and came to St. John’s as a young man. He was well-known in the community as a respected businessman, with Western Tire being a fixture on Cashin Avenue for almost 40 years. The family would like to say thank you to the staff at Ruby Manor and the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Wednesday November 13 and Thursday November 14 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life will take place at Elim Pentecostal Tabernacle on Friday November 15 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant. His family gives all thanks to God for the many blessings of his life. We know where he is gone and we will live as he taught us, so that we may be with him once again. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons International.

Very saddened to hear of Ray’s passing. Just to look at his picture brings back floods of memories of the days at Western Tire on Cashin Avenue. We all shared many a laugh there. To this day I recall may colorful characters that either worked there or passed through the doors. These were good days that I happily recall with Ray and brother Carl.. Although we lost contact over the years we often ran into each other at the mall and one thing for sure our conversations always ended with a recall of an old memory and a loud laugh .
Good By Old Friend and as the words of the Old Hymn says ‘God be with you ’till we meet again’
