Art and I went through the first MBA graduating class (1980) at Memorial. We met while writing the entrance exams. Art was hobbling around with a cast and crutches from a knee operation. We both passed so met again when we joined six others in our small class. I was new to Newfoundland and Art was really the first person I got to know well. He was incredibly well-grounded, kind, honest, funny, loved sports and a lot smarter than his demeanor might suggest.. I know our friendship helped me survive the MBA environment that broke just about everyone else’s marriage. It was that tough. We moved away in 1984 and I lost touch. Because of the character of people like Art I fell in love with Newfoundland. My wife loved NF too so we came back and bought a house in Trepassey. in 2002 where we live seasonally. I have very few regrets in my life. One was not making a better effort to see Art again. Now I never will but I treasure the many memories of a wonderful soul.

To the Sacrey Family,
My condolences on the loss of Art who I knew well from the College and especially from the dance floor.
Basil

My condolences to Art’s family. I was saddened to read Art’s obituary this morning. Our friendship goes way back to the early 70’s and I have fond memories of good times spent with a fantastic circle of friends. We connected on his trips to Gander and the last was on the passing of his mother after which I moved to NB. I shall cherish those memories and remember Art with a smile. Rest In Peace my friend.

I knew Art through our mutual friend Gord Power, also gone from us. Through the College I knew Art and he always had a kind word and a hearty laugh.

I’m sure his students would agree with the following quote. “What you leave behind is not what is engraved on stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”
