Obituary
Albert Stanley passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the age of 85. He left to join his loving wife Lorraine (née Vivian), parents William and Carrie and family that have passed before him.
Mourning his loss are sons Rick (Debbie), Tony (Brenda), and Shawn (Michele), his adoring grand children Jill (Marco), Holly (Jamie), Tyler (Jess), Brandon, Sarah (Matthew) and Megan (Nick), and great-grandchildren Eli and Mya. Also mourning his loss are his brother Gerald, Jessie (Leo), Eugene, Gord (Wynanne) & Carolyn (Arch), in-laws Jim (Alice), Pat, Christine (Howard), Pat, Beverly, Kay, Gladys, Gert, neighbors Dawn & Vince, and all the people he touched.
Albert spent his life working as a heavy equipment operator for the city of St. John’s and Bowering Park, where he even had a pet monkey. He spent years being involved in hockey with his wife Lorraine, starting hockey associations that are still present today; he was even inducted in the Mt. Pearl Hockey Hall of Fame. Albert was a member of the Stanley Unique 6 with brothers Gerald, Doug, Jim, Winston & Charlie rowing in the Royal St. John’s Regatta. He was even the lead singer of Rhythm Rockers with Winston, Joe, Frazier, Harold, and Joey. He was always a lovely, lively man! Putting smiles on the faces of everyone he met. He never shied away from a good laugh or a bit of fun. When asked how he was feeling, he would always say “with two hands” or “like da bird”. He never allowed the struggles of life to impact how wonderful he made the people around him feel.
We are honored to have experienced his love of life, and making people laugh. It is something we will all cherish forever.
He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
Albert will be waking on August 23, 2023 at Carnell’s funeral home, 329 Freshwater Rd, St. John’s, NL from 2-4 and 6-8pm. His funeral service will take place at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 202 Main Rd, Goulds, NL A1S 1H8 on August 24, 2023 at 11am.

Rick,Tony Shawn and family. It is with DEEP sadness that I am reading of dear Albert’s passing. I just returned today from two weeks in Ontario. I phoned Albert before I left and he told me he was having some tests done. I grew up in Kilbride with the Stanleys… a wonderful family. I connected with Albert some years ago and we loved to share stories of our time growing up . How he would chuckle when I remembered the ” good old days”. He adored Lorraine and his boys and often told me how good you all were to him. He said his daughter’s in law were like daughters. We always ended our conversation with ” I love you”. A LOVELY AND LIVELY man he was.. I love you sweet Albert..

Rick, Tony and Shawn. Deepest sympathy to you and your families. We have so many happy memories of Albert and Lorainne during our almost 20 years living in Mpunt Pearl. Their involvement in Mount Pearl, Minor Hockey, and ours, still bring smiles to our faces. Some of the best years of our lives were spent, watching our boys playing hockey, and socializing outside the arena with the Hockey Moms and Dads. Albert, like Lorainne were truly sweet pleasant and warm people. Boys, they are back together again now, in the nearer presence of Almighty God. God bless you and ease your grief. Albert was such a kind, sweet, and funny man.. He was my next door neighbour for many years. He touched the lives of everyone he met. I’m grateful our paths crossed as he left a forever heart print with me. Gone but never forgotten.

We have truly lost, not only a relative but, a close and loyal friend over the years. He spent a lifetime making people laugh and genuinely caring for people who gathered around him on a daily basis. He was a great provider for his wife and family, working with tireless energy in his regular job with the city, and he always had his after work job in landscaping, , horticulture , picking moss plus all the time he devoted to his kids in minor hockey, while at the same time his wife Loraine was president of Mount Pearl Minot Hockey Moms.;truly a hockey family. Our most sincere condolences go out to his family , close friends and all who knew him..
We were very sorry to hear of Albert’s passing. He was a very kind, and funny man who always had a smile on his face. We spent some time with him and Lorraine years ago when they lived in Heart’s Delight as they were good friends with my parents (Helen and Patrick Clarke). Sincere condolences to all of the family.
