Alice Rose Miles (nee O'Neill)

December 22, 1947 to January 9, 2023

Obituary

Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by family and friends following a sudden, and brief battle with cancer.

Pre-deceased by her parents Stephen O’Neill and Elsie (English) O’Neill, and her sister Margaret (Peggy) Walsh.

Alice is leaving a legacy of life and love behind her and will be celebrated and remembered by her husband of 52 years Harold Miles, daughters Stephanie (Derek) Nippard, Jennifer (Gil Moreau) Brown and her son John (Kyla) Miles.  Alice also has 2 wonderful grandsons Duncan (15) and Dalinar (3) who will cherish memories of bringing her coffee to sip while playing Candy Crush or dancing to Elvis.

Alice’s sisters Edwardine (Mike) White, Mollie (Knut Larson) O’Neill, Peggy (Frank) Walsh and brother Patrick (Trudy) O’Neill, their many children and grandchildren, the vast number of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and in-laws will continue to be a force of the love and support she shared with all who knew her.

Alice dedicated her life to helping others: from her nursing days, to stay-at-home Mom, volunteering with the Girl Guides and Ventures, to working for the Canadian Cancer Society, the Salmonid Association of Eastern Newfoundland (SAEN) and her devotion to her Church, St. Pius X.

The outpouring of love and support Alice has received from across Canada and the United States these past few weeks from friends and co-workers near and far is a testament to the beautiful gift she continues to be to us all.

We wish to send a special thanks to her family doctor and all the doctors, nurses, personal care attendants and the housekeeping staff at the Health Sciences Centre (4NorthB) for their incredible support, compassion, and dignity they offered Alice in her final days.  We could not have asked for better.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on  Monday, January 30th from 10-12 noon, followed by her funeral service at 1pm in Carnell Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society or Salmonoid Association of Eastern Newfoundland (SAEN) in Alice’s Memory.

My deepest sympathy to the Miles Family. I worked with Alice at the Wedgewood Medical Centre several years ago. We had many fabulous funny coffee breaks together with Heather and Tina. Alice was a lovely person. So sad to hear of her passing.
