Obituary

Verbree, Bernice (nee Snow): Passed peacefully away on December 13, 2022. Predeceased by her husband John in 2005.

Bernice and John live on in their children: Robert (Ruth), Kamloops, BC; Peter (Leanne), Kemptville, ON; Ingrid (Spencer Barnes), Flatrock; and Alison (Ross Wilson), St. John’s; and in their grandchildren: Cindy (Andres Ruberg), Erin (Shawn Maestrello), Nicholas, Kayce (Kevin Broaning), Arianna, Colin (Amanda), Nathaniel (Nate King), Luke, Adam, Melissa, Timothy and Elizabeth; and in their great-grand children: Elanie, Julianna, Alice, Jordyn, Alexis, Sophia, Sam, Ben, Ruston and Kelly.

Also, left with fond memories are her sister Barbara Peddle, Lethbridge, AB, ten nieces and nephews and numerous cousins residing throughout Canada, Holland and the USA. As well there are countless friends and chosen family whom all lovingly knew Bernice as Grandma.

Born on May 1, 1934, Bernice grew up at Jubilee Cottage Farm on Snows Lane, St. John’s, where she had a wonderful childhood with her sisters Lilla and Barbara. Bernice met her husband in 1951 after he immigrated from Holland to start The Holland Nurseries on Torbay Road. After graduating from the General Hospital Nursing program in 1956, she initially was a nurse on 3-West (Surgery) of the General Hospital.  Later she worked at the Children’s Rehab Center, where she found her nursing passion. In retirement, she was the best Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma anyone could ever ask for! Her date crumbles were delicious and accompanied a cup of tea like no other treat.

Bernice’s family would like to thank the staff at Saint Luke’s for their kindness and compassionate care for our Mom over the last three years.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or memorial service at Bernice’s request.

Donations may be made to “The Gathering Place” or a charity of your choice.

Instead of the usual memorial events a gathering will be planned during the Spring of 2023 to celebrate John and Bernice.

Meeting your mon at various establishments was always welcomed with a warm smile. We would check on each other families and then it was time to reminisce of times on Torbay. Road.
With passing of time one thing that never changed was the lasting friendship between the Snows and the Peach families.
Your mon has the table set and the afternoon tea parties have just begun.
