Obituary

Passed away on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, Bertha Lorenzen (nee Newport), surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 95.

Predeceased by her husband Evelly B. Lorenzen (January 1979).

Much beloved and dearly missed by her children Jo-Ann Kelly (Brian), Elizabeth Noftall (Frank) and Bill Lorenzen (Diane); her grandchildren Greg Kelly (Jodi), Janice Moore (Rob), Mark Noftall, Luke Noftall, Steve Lorenzen (Samantha) and Jeff Lorenzen (Megan); her great grandchildren William, Charlotte and Andrew Moore, Piper and Tommi Noftall, Beckham and Bennett Lorenzen and Blair Lorenzen. Also left with fond and loving memories are her Halifax family: the children and grandchildren of her dear sister Edith Gilbert.

We wish to express our deep appreciation to the staff of Lane’s Retirement Living for their excellent care and support, her many friends at the Caribou Legion Manor in Pleasantville as well as Katie of Carnell’s Funeral Home for her compassionate assistance. Special thanks to the wonderful 4SA staff at the HSC for their incredible care and kindness.

At her request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be planned for a later date in Glovertown.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Epilepsy Newfoundland and Labrador, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Faith United Church in Glovertown or to a charity of your choice.

I am so saddened to hear of your passing. I grew up in Traytown and remember you with fond memories. My condolences to the family. May your Mom rest in peace.

Bill, Diane, & Lorenzen family: I was saddened to learn of your mom’s passing. She was a beautiful lady who graciously welcomed me into her Traytown home to stay during winter months of my first year teaching in Glovertown. I fondly remember her wonderful smile, warm hugs, delicious meals and our evening chats. She will forever remain in our hearts & memories. My condolences to you all.

So, so sorry to learn of Bertha’s passing. We have only known her for a short time, but quickly learned what a beautiful lady she was. When we commented how cold her hands were, her response was always the same “cold hands, warm heart my dear”. Sending condolences to all her loved ones. Cherish your beautiful memories.
