It is with a saddened heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Bouwina Fogwill (nee Hann).

Bouwina leaves to mourn her loving children Frank, Margaret Heffernan (Tim), Bill (Sherry). Her grandchildren, Shane (Julie) and Kyle Heffernan, and Nicholas Fogwill, who all shared a special bond with their Oma. She treasured their conversations and followed all their adventures. She was blessed with two sisters, Kay Korpel (Case), St. John’s and Johanna De Buck (Piet), Netherlands. Bouwina treasured her large circle of family and friends, they brought much joy to her life.

Born in the Netherlands, she embarked on an adventure that led her to Canada, where she embraced her adopted country with open arms. Mom was a remarkable woman whose journey spanned continents and touched countless lives through her church activities by knitting prayer shawls for those needing comfort, hats, scarves, and mittens for those needing warmth, and pneumonia vests for newborns in underdeveloped countries.

Mom was an active member of St. David’s church community. She led the prayer shawl and knitting groups, enjoyed bowling, participated in fundraising activities, and was treasurer of the Atlantic Mission Society. Her extended church family contributed in creating a beautiful memory for her earlier this year, when she celebrated her 93rd birthday in Dutch style.

Mom was proud of her Dutch heritage and liked to share her experiences of being a young girl in WWII’s triumphs, setbacks and witnessing her country being liberated by Canada. She honoured and never forgot the sacrifices these soldiers made. These experiences contributed to her zest for life, inspiring those around her to embrace each day with gratitude.

Mom continued to work until the age of 70. She was proud to be employed by the Department of National Defence at CFS St. John’s until she retired. She will be forever remembered by her co-workers as “Foggy”.

As the sun sets on mom’s earthly journey, we celebrate a life well-lived. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her—a legacy of love, faith, and storytelling.

Cremation has taken place.  The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday, February 11th from 2 -4 PM and 7 -9PM.  The funeral service will be held at St. David’s Presbyterian Church on Monday, February 12th at 11 AM.

Donations in honour of Bouwina may be made to St. David’s Church or Bridges To Hope.

Mom, we love you and will miss you. Voor altijd geliefd (forever loved).

Dear Margaret, Shane, Kyle and Tim,

Much love,
Jochem Pfeiffer and Ineke Kerkhof

My deepest condolences for your loss. I know how I felt when my mother died, and then 4years later, my dad. My prayers for you and your family. The grief will pass, but the sadness always lingers. Remember the wonderful things about her. That helps a lot.

vehalen vertellen over haar jeugd alweer lang geleden .
Wij wensen jullie heel veel sterkte met het verwerken van dit groot verlies .
Veel liefs van uncle Piet en Arianne.

Dear Marg and Family,
