On Thursday July 13 2023, Carol Christine Harris passed peacefully away in the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax after a brief but devastating illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Predeceased by her mother Mary Fagan, father Newman Fagan, sister Bobbi Jack, brother-in-law Gerald Warford, mother-in-law Mildred Harris and father-in-law William Harris.

Leaving to mourn, her loving husband of 46 years Doug Harris, son Thomas Harris, daughter Christine Harris Stacey, son-in-law Darryl Stacey and step grandchild Rylee Tarrant.

Grandma will be missed by her “pride and joy” Charlie Harris and newest little grand baby that she was so happy to have seen arrived safe and sound, Bobby Stacey.

Also leaving behind, her sisters Sharon (Pat) Howlett, Michelle Warford, brother-in-law Bill (Delilah) Harris, sister-in-law Alice Harris (Bill Kay), sister-in-law Margaret Harris, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Carol will be missed by a wide circle of family and friends. We would like to make special mention of long time family friends Joe and Sue Ashley, “The Teachers” whose weekends and lunch dates were something she always looked forward to, and Jillian and Brian Murphy, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

We are sincerely grateful to the many friends and family who have supported us through this very trying and unexpected time over the last month. We would like to express our gratitude to the Victoria General ICU teams that did all in their power to give us 3 weeks and 1 day longer with her. As well as the OB-GYN team at the Health Sciences Centre who worked miracles of their own to let her be able to meet Baby Bobby in the short time she had, even if it was only by FaceTime. Every one of your efforts gave us rays of hope and a period of time to be able to say our goodbyes. She fought a hard fight but after a long hard month it was time for her to rest in heaven with her family and friends.

Flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made in Carol’s name to The Gathering Place, or to a charity of your choice.

The family will be accepting visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday July 18th from 2pm-9pm, and Wednesday July 19 from 2pm-9pm. The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 20 at Divine Mercy Parish Church (St. Paul’s Site), 340 Newfoundland Drive, at 1pm. There will be an inurnment to follow at the Belvedere Cemetery.

Please note that Carnell’s is a nut free building due to a staff member with a severe allergy. Thank you for your cooperation.

Our paths may have separated for now but we know the day will come that we’ll see you again “in that sacred place on Holy ground.” You are now our Guardian Angel to show us the way.

Dear Doug, Thomas, Christine, and family,

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Carol’s sudden passing. Carol and I worked together at Bishop Abraham for several years (I’m a music teacher). Carol was an amazing teacher, a great colleague, and super hilarious. I loved her stories about teaching, and growing up in town, and tales about her family. Carol is also the only person who made me laugh so hard I had to leave the room because I was in tears of laughter.

As well, Carol and I bonded over a mutual love of the opera! She was often in attendance for performances of Opera on the Avalon, and I often play in the pit orchestra – lots of nerdy music chats. I loved it.

Thinking of you all during this difficult time. Carol Harris was one of a kind.

Doug, Thomas, Christine and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Carol’s passing. Carol taught my children at MacPherson Elementary and Bishop Abraham Elementary. We certainly appreciated her no nonsense manner that was only a cover for her love and pride that she held for her profession and our children. We fondly remember “ board game night” at MacPherson where Carol loved to challenge Kathleen …. Oh the laughter!
May she rest in peace

To Carol’s family, I am so sorry to hear of Carol’s passing. My heartfelt condolences to all of you. Carol and I worked together at Bishop Abraham & often joked with each other as to which of us would retire first. She was such a tremendously dedicated teacher, well loved by her students. She had a sense of humor that could brighten any day. I will always treasure our many little chats. Jo-Ann Skinner
